Many people are surprised to learn that tooth enamel is actually the hardest material in the human body! Enamel serves as the outermost protective layer of your teeth, keeping them resilient and sparkling bright.
However, as mighty as your enamel may be, it isn’t entirely indestructible. Harmful oral bacteria can compromise and weaken it, causing your teeth to develop cavities or develop worse issues over time.
To keep your tooth enamel fortified, dental hygiene is the name of the game. That means daily brushing, daily flossing, and semiannual dental checkups!
Today is National Brush Day! Every year on the first day of November, we like to take some time to remind everyone of the importance of regular brushing, which is the very foundation of dental hygiene.
Here’s a brushing tip that you’ll probably find useful: be gentle! Brushing too hard can wear down enamel and hurt your gums. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush can help with this, too!
Happy Halloween from our family to yours! We hope that you and your loved ones enjoy all of the spooky festivities you have planned!
With Halloween coming up this week, you’re likely to see a lot more sweets and treats than usual at stores, at school, in the office, or even at home.
But beware; as tempting as it might be to indulge frequently, do yourself (and your teeth) a favor by enjoying them in moderation, and of course, by maintaining your dental health!
If you aren’t able to brush immediately after having something sweet, consider drinking a glass of water or chewing sugar-free gum; both of these habits can increase your mouth’s saliva flow, which in turn will boost your protection against cavities!
For most of us, brushing our teeth is just one of our several daily habits, and we often don’t even think about it while we’re doing it. However, it’s easy to not brush for long enough if you’re on autopilot or just going through the motions!
Be sure that you’re spending 2 to 3 minutes brushing each time. Additionally, be sure you’re spending an adequate amount of time brushing each section of your mouth – and don’t forget your tongue!
If you stay true to this important habit, you’ll end up spending over 40 collective days brushing throughout your lifetime!
In honor of spooky season, here’s a dental statistic that might sound scary! There are currently close to 8 billion people on the planet today, and the number is only growing. But did you know that the number of bacteria in the human mouth is fairly close to the number of people on Earth? That’s a lot of germs!
Technically, not all of them are harmful, but many are – and this is all the more reason why it’s incredibly important to clean your mouth daily. Brush, floss, and keep up with your dental visits – you’ll be giving your smile the best chance at fighting off cavity-causing bacteria.
Other than brushing your teeth twice a day, it’s also incredibly important to floss between your pearly whites so that all the lingering debris and food particles can be removed from your smile. That said, not everyone finds flossing to be very convenient, especially when trying to manipulate the floss and clean every single nook and cranny around your mouth.
If using floss threads isn’t always easy for you, consider using a water flosser instead! By spraying a semi-powerful stream around your teeth at least once a day, you’ll be able to keep plaque at bay. Dental floss sticks can also do the trick; pick your preference and floss away!
How do you stay on top of flossing and other dental habits? Let us know!
Did you know that in many ways, your teeth are a lot like fingerprints? Dental patterns are unique from person to person – even between twins!
This uniqueness is one of the reasons why dental records are such an important tool for identifying people, particularly in forensic research as you’ve probably seen in movies and on television.
This all goes to say that your teeth are an essential part of your identity – they aren’t just mere tools for eating and speaking! With that in mind, care for them diligently and proudly show them off for the world to see!

Aspire Rewards are a great way to stay in the loop with your skin care routine, and earn points every time you visit our office for any Dysport/botox treatment. Each visit we will add your treatment, which will give you points to be converted to $20 or more off at the next visit.

Halloween is coming up, and when it comes to this spooky and exciting holiday, one of the first things that comes to mind is candy – and lots of it!
Simply put, it can be hard to avoid candy entirely during Halloween; while your teeth would certainly benefit from you not having any candy whatsoever, it’s often much more realistic to practice moderation. It’s also worthwhile to know how to identify certain candies that are more harmful to teeth than others.
Particularly hard candies, like jawbreakers and lollipops, pose a threat to teeth since they’re often bitten into or chewed, which can lead to chips and fractures. Additionally, these types of candy expose the teeth to sugar for long periods of time as they’re slowly consumed. If you can, opt for chocolate, which is much easier to rinse off the teeth when it’s time to brush.
Brushing and flossing are some of the best ways to maintain a clean and fresh set of pearly whites. But what about mouthwash; have you ever wondered about its role in dental hygiene?
It essentially helps to wrap up the job done by your toothbrush and dental floss, granting you further coverage against oral bacteria and lingering food particles. When you’re using mouthwash, be sure to use the correct amount – which is often listed as 20 milliliters – and rinse a few minutes after you’ve brushed and flossed.
You’ll be glad that you’re giving your smile a sharper edge when it comes to fighting cavities and decay!
When it comes to protecting your teeth from dangerous bacteria and keeping your smile clean and fresh every day, the toothbrush is truly one of your mightiest tools!
The average toothbrush contains around 2500 bristles grouped into 40 or so tufts. These tufts are then folded over a metal staple and fused into their pre-cored holes within the head by using just a little heat—kind of like a sword forged in fire.
And with that, you can use it to scrub your pearly whites so that you can show off an amazing smile in the long run – just remember to swap to a new one roughly every 3 months, or sooner if you’ve been sick!
October is National Dental Hygiene Month! Started in 2009 by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), it aims to increase public awareness about the importance of oral hygiene.
Remember, it takes a collective effort from all of us to ensure that every smile remains bright and healthy. Do your part by taking excellent care of your teeth – but also by encouraging those in your life to do so, too!
🚨Office Closure 10/9-10/10 due to Hurricane Milton 🚨
We are closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and out of an abundance of caution and safety for our staff and JICD families, we are closed today and tomorrow. Please reach our emergency and after hours number at 561-747-7172 if you need us, as we will be right around the corner.
Keeping all our friends and families in our thoughts, especially those whose will get the biggest impact on the west coast of Florida. We’re hoping at this time everybody who had to evacuate has reached their safety destination, and hurricane Milton continues to weaken.
Have you ever gotten a bruise or received a cut on your finger by accident, only to notice that it had fully recovered after just a few days? The human body is incredibly resilient and is even able to regenerate tissue and heal itself in a relatively quick manner. But did you know that tooth enamel is technically the ONLY part of your body that can’t heal itself?
That’s why you want to take extra care to protect your smile by wearing a mouthguard during sports, as well as practicing preventive dental hygiene to keep your teeth safe. Even though your teeth can’t heal themselves, you can use your head to protect them and prevent many types of issues!
Happy World Smile Day!
Whether it’s through small acts of kindness or taking care of our oral health, smiles have a unique way of making life better for ourselves and others. This World Smile Day, let’s light up the world, one smile at a time!
Many people these days struggle to maintain excellent dental health, and part of this is because they find it challenging to attend routine dental visits, often due to stress or anxiety.
If the thought of visiting the dentist seems to bring you down, just remember – booking the visit and showing up are often the most difficult steps! Once you’ve arrived and you’re seated in the chair, your best interests are in mind and your smile will be well on its way to a bright and healthy future!
Happy National Chewing Gum Day! Chewing sugar-free gum isn’t just fun; it can help your dental health!
It boosts your mouth’s production of saliva, which in turn helps to battle cavity-causing acids and clear out lingering food debris.
Just keep in mind that the gum should be sugar-free, and also remember that you’ll still want to brush and floss daily!
You’ve probably heard that the common cold is the most widespread disease in the world – but did you know that tooth decay is a very close second?
It’s estimated that nearly 90% of adults ages 20 to 64 have had decay in their teeth at some point during their lives.
For a condition that can easily be prevented through routine dental hygiene, this figure is far too high – and not one that you should want to be a part of! Be sure you're taking care of your smile at home, and when it's time, attend your annual checkups and cleanings!
We are open today, Thursday September 26th. If you are traveling to us for a dental appointment, please be careful due to windy and rainy road conditions caused by Hurricane Helene.
Autumn has finally arrived, which hopefully means that cooler temperatures are just around the corner! And before you know it, the leaves of trees all over will begin turning yellow, orange, red, and other warm, cheerful shades.
However, when it comes to teeth, we don’t prefer yellow – we prefer sparkling white! While some discoloration is natural as we age, certain foods and drinks can also darken your smile, including things like coffee, tea, red wines and sauces, and more. Chronically poor oral hygiene is also a factor when it comes to dental staining.
To ensure that your smile remains white and bright as we enter the latter seasons of the year, be sure that you’re brushing and flossing diligently, as well as enjoying certain snacks and beverages in moderation.
Pretty much everyone has heard just how important it is to brush and floss their teeth every single day – and for most, brushing comes before flossing. However, did you know that recent research shows it might be better to floss before you brush?
By cleaning the debris from between your teeth first, you’re making your toothbrush’s job much easier! But in any case, as long as you’re practicing both of these habits daily, your smile will be kept in great shape!
These days, sugary beverages like soda seem to be everywhere – and if you’ve ever had an ice-cold Coca-Cola on a hot day, it’s easy to understand why these drinks are so popular and beloved!
But to put it plainly, soda doesn’t get along very well with your teeth! In fact, people who drink 3 or more glasses of soda daily are a whopping 62% more likely to develop tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and other sorts of dental issues.
Needless to say, there are plenty of better beverages out there for your smile like water, milk, or even green tea – opting for one of these is doing yourself a huge favor!
Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day! This whimsical, fun-filled holiday encourages people around the world to unleash their inner pirate by speaking in pirate lingo.
Just remember – talking like a pirate is fun, but adopting their dental hygiene habits will spell bad news for your smile! Be sure that just like any other day of the year, you’re staying on top of your dental hygiene by brushing and flossing!
Though it might feel like the year just started for some of us, believe it or not, there are just a few months left of 2024! This means that if you haven’t attended your second routine checkup of the year (or your first), now is the time to get it scheduled.
Routine preventive care plays a very integral role in maintaining a healthy smile. Even if you brush and floss every single day, it’s simply not possible to clear away every particle of debris or bacteria. Do yourself a favor by keeping up with these visits, so that you can end 2024 with a bright and healthy grin on your face!
