We're looking forward to seeing you all out at the Dr. Lawless International Dark Sky Park / Michigan Dark Sky Preserve on Friday night! The weather looks to be picture perfect, and if you attended our event last year, the music with Selkie will be equally fantastic!

Our organist friends at SW Michigan Chapter AGO are having their "Bach Around the Block" event this Monday, June 3, starting at 7:00 PM!

Their annual, free family-friendly event features an "organ crawl" played by area organists in three downtown Kalamazoo churches. Start your evening at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, walk to Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church, then on to Kalamazoo First Congregational UCC!

There will be a pre-concert talk at 7:00 PM with Matthew Fries (Assistant Professor, Jazz Piano, Jazz Studies – Western Michigan University) and Beau Bothwell (Assistant Professor of Music – Kalamazoo College).

Today's a busy Festival day!

If you're planning to attend our Trail Walk with Slow Bell Trio today at noon, meet at the tennis courts behind the Maple Street YMCA. If possible, please park in the lot area closer to the courts -- we don't want to take up spaces for YMCA guests.

If you're planning on attending the Rahim Alhaj Trio concert at Stetson Chapel at 4PM, here's what you need to know:

– Online ticket sales will close at 2:00 PM.

– If you don't have a ticket, don't worry – tickets will be available at the door. There's plenty of room for everyone at Stetson Chapel!

– Parking: keep in mind the construction in and around the area. There should be street parking available on Academy, Lovell and surrounding streets at the time of the concert.

– There's a parking lot off Academy behind the Trowbridge Residence Hall if you need handicap accessibility. Here's a link to the campus map: https://www.kzoo.edu/about/campus/

KOLOMEYKE - Elizabeth Schwartz & Yale Strom 05/18/2023

What sets Strom's klezmer ensemble apart from many others is all the musicians add improvisation to their performances. It is often thought that the klezmer musicians from before World War II did not improvise, but this is not true.

Often a well known klezmer dance or even a Yiddish folk song was sung and played slightly differently from each other even in villages that were within 100 kilometers of each other.
