Weekly DT Report

Weekly DT Report

Since DT was elected, I've done a bit of research and written a short and as airtight-as-I-can-make-it description of what he did. So I do.

He's a hard man to keep up with.

06/14/2022

Interesting to look back.

Nothing here is even being discussed right now because his actions leading up to the 2020 election were even crazier.

It seems useful to look back at this now.

It’s a record of what DT did when Republicans controlled the Senate, the House, and the presidency.

He did show us who he was.

And he’s added to the rules he’s willing to break.

And here are our MISDEMEANORS (only from the first two years, though, because we had to tap out after that):

*erratic behavior makes government actions difficult
*uses presidential power to personally attack fellow citizens
*lies about paying hush money
*behaves so inappropriately that organizations have to apologize after he speaks

details in comments below

12/19/2019

Hello, friends. Happy Impeachment Day.
Here's our reminiscence of all those weeks, in the form of
HIGH CRIMES:

*siding with other countries against our own agencies and citizens

*putting himself above the law

*acting to increase violence and division in our country, rather than uniting us

*showing disregard for human rights

*claiming that the press cannot be trusted

details in comments below.

THE UKRAINE PROBLEM
1. Ukraine needs military aid.
2. DT tells the president of Ukraine to publicly announce an investigation of a Democratic rival.
3. DT stops Ukraine from getting military aid.
4. The Senate overrides DT, and Ukraine gets the money.
5. Someone in our intelligence community (“the whistleblower”) freaks out and files a complaint with nonpartisan inspectors. The inspectors deem the complaint "credible and urgent."
6. Multiple government employees with records of exemplary service testify, under oath, and corroborate the whistleblower’s account.
7. High level state department employees affirm that not only did Ukraine not interfere with our election, but that this is a story Russia planted to sow division in the U.S.

THE PROBLEMATIC RESPONSE

1. DT explains he was concerned about corruption in Ukraine.
2. No, it was because Europe needs to pay their fair share to support Ukraine.
3. No, he never explicitly offered Ukraine aid in exchange for information.
4. His chief of staff says that he explicitly offered Ukraine aid in exchange for information.
5. DT is just “hands on,” and that’s why he asked for an announcement of an investigation of his political rival, rather than going through the usual channels.
6. DT and some Repubs repeat that Ukraine interfered with our elections.
7. DT and Repubs repeat that people who testified under oath are anti-Trump, or unreliable, or liars, or crazy.
8. Many Repubs who could resolve remaining questions or clear themselves continue to refuse to testify.
9. Repubs say because Ukraine eventually got the aid, there is no ethical problem.

OBSTRUCTION/WITNESS INTIMIDATION

1. Displeased with our ambassador to Ukraine because she follows stated U.S. policy rather than his shadow policy, DT threatens our own ambassador, saying that she is “going to go through some things.”
2. Multiple agencies in the executive branch refuse to deliver documents to the House.
3. DT writes that the whistleblower, who acted lawfully, should be found and punished, and hints at the death penalty.
4. He personally attacks witnesses at the impeachment inquiry.

SIDE NOTES

1. DT pardons a war criminal, and fires the secretary of the Navy for trying to get the war criminal punished.

11/15/2019

This stuff is hella complicated.

But here's a new summary, based on both today's events, and the meaningfulness of past events, using the lens of today.

THE UKRAINE PROBLEM
1. Ukraine needs military aid.
2. DT tells the president of Ukraine to investigate a situation with a political rival, and to announce it publicly.
6. Displeased with our ambassador to Ukraine because she follows stated U.S. policy rather than his shadow policy, DT threatens our own ambassador, saying that she is “going to go through some things.”

THE PROBLEMATIC RESPONSE

1. The director of national intelligence is legally required to report the complaint to Congress, but he refuses to do so.
2. DT explains he did this because he was concerned about corruption in Ukraine.
3. Then he says it was because Europe needs to pay their fair share to support Ukraine.
4. Then he insists that he never explicitly offered Ukraine aid in exchange for information, so it wasn’t wrong.
5. It is revealed that information related to the Ukraine call was moved into a separate server reserved for classified information, though it contained no classified information.
6. Multiple government employees with records of exemplary service testify, under oath, that the whistleblower’s concerns were well founded.

OBSTRUCTION/WITNESS INTIMIDATION

1. Multiple agencies in the executive branch refuse to deliver documents to the House, and the White House tells Congress they will not cooperate with the impeachment inquiry.
2. DT writes that the whistleblower, who acted lawfully, should be found and punished, and hints at the death penalty. He criticizes witnesses who are called to testify at the impeachment hearings, sometimes even during their testimony.
3. In one courtroom, the president’s lawyer argues that a president cannot even be investigated while in office, suggesting that even if the president publicly shot someone, “nothing could be done” except impeachment.
4. On the same day, in another courtroom, another one of the president’s lawyers argues that the impeachment is not valid, and thus the president can ignore it.

OBSTRUCTION OF THE IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY
8. DT says he is looking for the whistleblower and punished, hinting at the death penalty.
9. Multiple agencies in the executive branch refuse to deliver documents to the House.
10. The White House demands that those called before the House not appear, and sends a letter to the Speaker of the House, stating that they “cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry...."
11. Forty Republicans insist they be allowed into the room where impeachment testimony is about to begin, and that the hearings SHOULD BE PUBLIC. They demand the hearings be public. Of the 40, 13 of them are on the relevant committees and have already been participating.
12. In one courtroom, the president’s lawyer argues that a president cannot even be investigated while in office, suggesting that even if the president publicly shot someone, “nothing could be done” except impeachment. On the same day, in another courtroom, another one of the president’s lawyers argues that the impeachment is not valid, and thus the president can ignore it.
13. The president says that, actually, the hearings SHOULD NOT BE PUBLIC.
THE CRUMBLING
14. The ambassador to Europe asks to testify again, because he has “realized” that he presented a quid pro quo, on DT’s orders, to Ukraine.
15. Under oath, three more government employees confirm the ambassador’s account.
16. According to our ambassador to Ukraine, DT told the Ukranian president that she was “bad news” and that “she’s going to go through some things.”

7. It is revealed that information related to the Ukraine call was moved into a separate server reserved for classified information, though it contained no classified information.

OBSTRUCTION OF THE IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY

8. DT says he is looking for the whistleblower and punished, hinting at the death penalty. The whistleblower is protected by law.

9. Multiple agencies in the executive branch refuse to deliver documents to the House.

10. The White House demands that those called before the House not appear.

11. The White House sends a letter to the Speaker of the House, stating that they “cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry...."

12. Forty Republicans insist they be allowed into the room where impeachment testimony is about to begin, and that the hearings be public. Of the 40, 13 of them are on the relevant committees and have been able to participate all along.

13. In one courtroom, the president’s lawyer argues that a president cannot even be investigated while in office, suggesting that even if the president publicly shot someone, “nothing could be done.” Impeachment, it is suggested, is the only way to legally deal with a president.

14. On the same day, in another courtroom, another one of the president’s lawyers argues that the impeachment is not valid, and thus the president can ignore it.

10/08/2019

THE UKRAINE PROBLEM

1. Ukraine needs military aid. DT prevents aid from getting to them.

2. DT tells the president of Ukraine to investigate a situation with current Democratic presidential candidate and his son. (There is no evidence to support this idea.)

3. DT's personal lawyer goes to Ukraine and repeats request about Biden.

4. The Senate overrides DT, and Ukraine gets military aid.

5. Someone in our intelligence community freaks out and files a complaint with nonpartisan inspectors. Inspectors agree it is "credible and urgent."

THE PROBLEMATIC RESPONSE

6. The director of national intelligence is legally required to report the complaint to Congress, but he refuses. So the inspectors tell Congress.

7. DT explains he did this, first because he was concerned about corruption in Ukraine, then because Europe needs to pay their fair share to support Ukraine, and sometimes insists that he never explicitly offered Ukraine aid in exchange for information.

8. The Speaker of the House announces the opening of an official impeachment investigation.

IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY

9. DT releases what he says is a transcript of the call, which verifies the whistleblower's account.

10. It is found that information related to the Ukraine call was moved into a separate server reserved for classified information, though it contained no classified information.

11. DT says he is looking for the whistleblower, though legally that person may be anonymous.

12. We learn DT also asked the president of Australia to investigate our own government's investigation into the Russian election meddling. He asks China for the same thing, this time on live TV.

OBSTRUCTION OF IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY

13. The Secretary of State misses deadline for turning in documents to Congress.

14. The White House tries to prevent an ambassador, someone from the Secretary of State's office, and others, to not testify before Congress.

15. The president's personal attorney, who has revealed his involvement in Ukraine scandal, says he will refuse to testify,

16. The White House sends a letter to the Speaker of the House, stating, "President Trump and his administration cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances."

17. A group of Republican members of Congress goes into the impeachment inquiry hearing room and insists they have a right to be included, although closed-door hearings are common in Congress, and in all American legal procedure.

They delay testimony for several hours.

09/30/2019

1. Ukraine needs military aid. DT prevents aid from getting to them.

2. Though there is as yet no evidence of wrongdoing, DT tells the president of Ukraine to investigate a situation with Joe Biden and his son.

3. DT's personal lawyer goes to Ukraine and repeats request about Biden.

4. The Senate overrides DT, and Ukraine gets military aid.

5. Someone in our intelligence community freaks out and files a complaint with nonpartisan inspectors.

6. Inspectors deem the complaint "credible and urgent."

7. The Inspectors tell the director of National Intelligence. The director asks the Justice Department about what to do. The Justice Department says there is no evidence of illegality.

8. The director of national intelligence is legally required to report the complaint to Congress, but he refuses to.

9. So the Inspectors tell the Congressional committee that the complaint existed, and Congress demands the complaint.

10. DT claims he stopped aid to Ukraine was because he was concerned about corruption in Ukraine. Then DT says actually it's because Europe needs to pay their fair share.

11. The Speaker of the House announces the opening of an official impeachment investigation.

12. DT releases what he says is a transcript of the call. He claims it exonerates him, but instead it shows him doing just the thing he said he did, use his power as president for his own personal political gain.

13. It is found that the call with the president of Ukraine was moved into a separate server reserved for classified information, though it contained no classified information.

14. DT threatens witnesses and his fellow citizens:

*says whistleblower should be punished the way we "used to" punish spies

*writes that a member of Congress in charge of investigating him should be arrested and charged with treason.

*quotes someone who said that removing him from office would cause a "Civil War like fracture."

*says his administration is looking for the whistleblower, directly contradicting the law that states whistleblowers remain anonymous

17. His own former head of Homeland Security says that he told DT the Ukraine/Biden theory was crazy

18. We learn DT asked the president of Australia to investigate our own government's investigation into the Russian election meddling.

19. DT writes "what is taking place is not an impeachment, it is a COUP."

09/25/2019

1. Ukraine needs military aid. DT prevents them from getting it.

2. Though there is as yet no evidence of wrongdoing, DT tells the president of Ukraine to investigate a situation with Joe Biden and his son.

3. DT's personal lawyer goes to Ukraine and repeats request about Biden.

4. The Senate overrides DT, and Ukraine gets the military aid.

9. So the Inspectors tell the Congressional committee that the complaint existed.

10. Congress demands the complaint.

11. DT claims he stopped aid to Ukraine was because he was concerned about corruption in Ukraine.

12. Then DT says actually it's because Europe needs to pay their fair share.

13. The Speaker of the House announces the opening of an official impeachment investigation.

Notes that the president does not have to explicitly demand anything from Ukraine. Even asking them to investigate is an abuse of power.

14. DT releases what he says is a transcript of the call. He claims it exonerates him, but instead it shows him doing just the thing he said he did, use his power as president for his own personal political gain.

15. Republicans are confused. The press have to tell them that the transcript has been released.

Not only do they not warn their fellow Republicans, but the White House accidentally tells the Democrats.

Yes, they accidentally email Democrats the Republican talking points.

09/21/2019

1. Ukraine needs military aid. It is set up to go to them, but DT stops them from getting it.

2. DT tells the president of Ukraine to investigate situation with Joe Biden and his son related to Ukraine.

3. DT's personal lawyer goes to Ukraine and repeats request about Biden, and adds that Ukraine should investigate how Democrats might have gotten info that sent a corrupt member of DT's administration to prison for 8 years.

4. Ukraine does not get a meeting with DT.

5. A Senator meets with the president of Ukraine, who explained they really needed military aid, and that DT's people were pressuring him about Biden. The senator advises the president of Ukraine to ignore DT.

6. The Senate overrides DT, and Ukraine gets the military aid.

7. Someone in our intelligence community freaks out and files a complaint with nonpartisan inspectors.

8. Inspectors deem the complaint "credible and urgent."

9. The Inspectors tell the director of National Intelligence. The director asks the Justice Department about what to do.

10. The director refuses to tell Congressional committee about the complaint, although he is legally required to.

11. The Inspectors tell the Congressional committee that the complaint existed.

12. The Director who wouldn't talk to Congress showed up to Congress, and says the Justice Department told him not to reveal it.

13. DT: "is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader" [sic].

14. Democrats: we are considering legal action if necessary. We will soon have meetings to write memos to create lists of ideas to be voted on by committees of deputy somethings and we will consider as we consider action of a legal type at some point. Maybe.

09/20/2019

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

1. DT's said some crazy things to a foreign leader...likely DT asked the president of Ukraine to help him with stuff like getting reelected in 2020.

2. Someone in our intelligence community found out and freaked out about what DT said.

3. That whistleblower filed a complaint with the people who inspect our agencies for ethics and waste.

4. Those Inspectors determined the complaint about DT was "credible and urgent."

5. The Inspectors tell the director of National Intelligence. Director says he talked to the Justice Department about this, and tells Congress "a higher authority" (which could only be the White House) told him to not take it to Congressional security committees, although the law demands it.

6. Thus the Inspectors told the Congressional security that the complaint existed. But no details. The Inspectors aren't supposed to be involved in the details, just to decide if the complaint is legit.

7. Today the Director who wouldn't talk to Congress showed up to Congress, but wouldn't tell what the complaint was.

8. DT: "is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader" [sic].

The DT Report is transforming to a weekly hero report, for someone who has been a great civic force in our battle to make the United States healthier, happier place.

We are turning a corner.

Week 1: Laura Kelly, just elected governor of Kansas, announces she will reinstate protection for LGBTQI state workers.

11/02/2018

Week 105, a week before the midterms:

-He offers middle class Americans a 10% tax break this year, then admits that this would only happen next year, if Republicans still hold majorities.

-He claims he can end birthright citizenship, in spite of its inclusion in the Constitution.

-He sends 5,000 troops to the Mexican border because there are refugees 1,000 miles from our border. He states that the troops will be able to fire on the refugees if the refugees throw rocks. About a third of the refugees are children.

-After the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in American history, the mayor asks DT not to visit until after the funerals. He goes anyway.

Week 104: Someone sends bombs to many of the targets of his threats (politicians and a national news organization), and he responds: "A very big part of the Anger we see today...is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media."
Week 103: At a political rally just days after a Saudi journalist is killed by his own government, DT praises an American politician who was accused of, and pled guilty to, assaulting a journalist.
Week 102: He invites a popular musician to the Oval Office, and the musician proceeds to ramble incoherently, pound on the president's desk, and use profanity on live TV.
Week 101: At a rally of his supporters, he repeats the words of a woman who testified before a Congressional committee about her experience of sexual assault more than 30 years ago, claiming that she because there are details she does not remember, she is lying.
Days before, he had called her "a very credible witness."
Week 100: Offering no evidence, he claims that it is China attempting to interfere with our elections, rather than Russia.
Week 99: When a woman reports that she was sexually assaulted at the age of 15, he responds, "If the attack... was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed... by either her or her loving parents."
Week 98: A fifth former associate of his pleads guilty to charges stemming from the special counsel investigation.
Week 97: He claims that a study from George Washington University wrongly reported 3,000 people died as a result of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, and that actually Democrats are responsible for falsely reporting the number of deaths.
Week 96: He was not invited to the funeral of an important, respected senator, so while former presidents from both parties praise the departed's influence and ethics, he plays golf.
Week 95: His former campaign chairman is convicted of fraud; his personal attorney pleads guilty to breaking campaign finance law, and he says he did so to influence the election, at the request of DT.
Week 94: His attorney says, "I'm not going to be rushed into having [DT] testify so that he gets trapped into perjury."
Week 93: Illegal immigration has returned to its previous levels, and there is no border wall, or funding for one.
Week 92: After his tariffs hurt farmers, he gives them $12 billion in emergency aid.
Week 91: DT's attorney releases a recording of DT discussing paying off his former lovers surfaces, though he two months after the conversation, DT had said he knew nothing about the payouts.
Week 90: Repeated follow-ups to his remarks on Putin and Russia's interference in American elections only add to the confusion.
Week 89: While meeting with the violent dictator of Russia, he said he trusted the dictator more than our own Justice Department's findings, and said our Justice Department's investigation had been "a disaster for our country."
Week 88: He mocks the "metoo" movement at his rally, suggesting you have to be "gentle" with people who stand up to rapists and bullies.
Another one of his cabinet heads resigns after numerous allegations of corruption.
Week 87: General Motors announces that his proposed tariffs would cause them to cut jobs.
