We had such a great day today at Adventures in Learning! We thank our new friend Hank for joining us for health checks. Deasiray Bush, director of transportation for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS told us all about our public transit options and and Jon Harding with the Kansas State School for the Blind told us of all the incredible work that goes on in this longtime community institution. Of course we also had great fun and LOTS of wonderful pot luck food!
Yesterday we enjoyed presenting information about Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas to some participants with Fountain of Life Senior Community Center. It was so nice meeting these lovely ladies.
We had a warm and wonderful outing to Kansas Speedway today! Our thanks to our host, LaToria Chinn, who is seen sharing the photgraph of the Speedway and fitting 4 major sports stadiums in its infield.
Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas was so pleased to attend the co-naming of the KCKCC campus childcare center to add Dr. Marjorie Blank's name to the building. Marge gave decades of service to us using her impeccable leadership skills gleaned during her long career at KCKCC. She is so deserving. Read about her career and life here.
Facilitator Erin Pouppirt led the last Spring TALK Books session this afternoon. We will read three books from a different genre in the Fall. We are so appreciative of this wonderful program from Humanities Kansas , and we value the great partnership, in being a small part of promoting the humanities.
Today we partnered with our excellent Community Police Officers and helped this friend of Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas . Her privacy fence had partially blown over in one of the many recent storms. Today our team took down the rest of the fence, hauled it away, mowed the grass and cleaned up her yard.
We had another really fun day, learning (and eating)!
Wyandotte County Election Commissioner Michael Abbott shared lots of details on the workings of the election office and voting. After that Oak Street Health brought us a delicious lunch of soup and salad from Olive Garden and shared all their services. We always love our lifelong learning but being together makes it so much better.
We are so, so happy! Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas nominated our extraordinary minor home repair volunteer Lance Gockel for the Buck O'Neil Legacy award and last night he and his family enjoyed the Kansas City Royals game. The rain held off and they enjoyed a win! Thank you, Lance, for all you've done to help older adults in Wyandotte County stay safely in their homes. We know he has completed at least 350 repairs in his years of volunteering with us!
We love our shoppers, and our volunteers! We're here until 3pm today with plenty of great bargains still to be had!

Pastor Cindy Boyer with Victory Hills Baptist told us about the Lryic Opera's FREE presentation of the Haberdasher Prince Monday evening at the church.
