On April 23, 2024, Governor Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 458. This bill, which takes effect on July 1st, reforms the Kansas Standard Seizure and Forfeiture Act, helping protect against wrongful asset forfeiture and seizure in the state of Kansas. JHC attorney, Chris Joseph, was involved in the Judicial Council Civil Asset Forfeiture Advisory Committee, a group of individuals who advocated for and recommended the reform.
