Full Stride Sewing & Alterations, Helen Alfaro - seamstress
Specializing in alterations and repair of horse show apparel, business wear, formal wear, etc. And I've been sewing and learning new techniques ever since.
At age 8, I became interested in sewing, fascinated with my mother's ability to pin/cut/sew and transform fabric into clothing and home decor. I wanted to learn this magical ability, so my mother taught me the basics of cutting fabric and using a sewing machine. My grandmother taught me the finer techniques of fitting and customizing a garment. She also gave me an old sewing machine that my grandf

Mitered points for a perfect finish on a new hemline for these saddle suit jods.
On the left is my usual Valentine’s Day table, on the right is my Valentine’s Day table for this year…. I have a date with my sewing machine. 😂
But he takes me to all the best places, this year it’s Scottsdale AZ!
Very sad news about Larry Jerome. While I never knew him personally, Larry had one of the most familiar faces in the Arabian Horse industry and I recognized him as a man of significance within that industry.
I’m always amazed at how our community, with only the love for horses as a single common thread, pulls together as a family in times of joy and sorrow.
Rest in peace, Larry. And may your heaven hold the greenest pastures filled with beautiful horses.
Just so sad to share the news that the wonderful gentleman, Larry Jerome, has passed away. Our thoughts are with Larry's family, and all who knew and loved this extraordinary man.
Sending thanks to all the people who have supported my little sewing biz….
To all of my new and repeat clients,
To Frierson Atkinson who rents me space in his vendor booth for my on-site sewing services at major horse shows,
To the many friends who have shared their homes or hotel rooms with me (often charging me $0) which helps keep my costs down so I can travel to horse shows and provide on-site service,
To all of you who have liked/shared my business page or recommended me to others,
And especially to everyone who publicly compliment my work and sewing skills (that keeps me going even when I’m backlogged and feeling frustrated or overwhelmed and just want to quit!)….
Full Stride has been profitable, not just in $$ but much more so in all of the supportive friendships that have enriched my life.
I am humbled and grateful. So very grateful.
Kayley Wagner don’t we know a little boy who played this instrument before he took up harmonica? 😉
I’m dealing with these heat-sealed dry cleaner barcodes on a regular basis and they are extremely frustrating!
If you anticipate that the hem of your saddle suit or hunt coat might ever be altered in the future, please ask your dry cleaner not to use these barcodes along the hemlines. They are nearly impossible to get out.
Full Stride is gearing up for US Arabian Nationals in October.
I’ll arrive in Tulsa on 10/17 and will be on site for the entire show. Please let me know if you need any alterations or repairs.

Fun in my booth at the Youth Nationals Midsummer show.
It might be a hundred degrees outside here in Oklahoma City 🥵 but it’s icy cold inside the air-conditioned hallways of Jim Norick Arena 🥶 where I’m set up and ready to sew!
Once again, Frierson Atkinson has allocated space in his booth for Full Stride Sewing to provide on-site service for exhibitors at the Youth Nationals/mid summer, Arabian/Half-Arabian Horse Show.
No matter where you get your equestrian attire, I can help you with alterations and repairs. Stop and see me at Frierson’s Suits, just outside the show arena, next to The Hat Lady.
Or call/text 303-503-3984.
Giving thanks today for the many new and repeat clients at the Region 13 horse show. Special gratitude goes to Tasha Thompson for spreading the word about my services and posting a very nice testimonial to the World Equestrian Center page! 🙏
I’ve had to wrap up for now as I’m getting an early start on my 10-hr drive home, so I won’t be on-site today.
My next show is Youth Nationals/Midsummer and I’ll be there beginning Monday July 10th, staying only through Wednesday July 19th as I have another commitment during the last weekend of that show.
See you next in steamy hot OKC!

I’m heading to the Region 11 show tomorrow and already have a pair of ripped jods waiting for me when I get there!

Hey, Little Buckaroo….
Yes, I work on western wear! Show me whatcha got…
Dog versus sleeve, and the sleeve didn’t win on this nice satin formal show shirt that now needs a whole new sleeve. Thanks, Mom and Grandma for teaching me how to sew shirts because I had to tap that knowledge to create the cuff and pleats from scratch, building a pattern from the torn pieces.
Thank you, Cindy Crawford for trusting me with this project. What an ordeal! It’s gonna be a little pricey, but less than a new custom shirt…
My first time resetting an entire sleeve. Had to take a deep breath before cutting about an inch of fabric out to narrow the shoulders.… if I make a mistake, I’m buying Chrissy Norris a new hunt coat! 😳
