Research College of Nursing

Stepping into a hospital to shadow a nurse for a day is an incredible opportunity for each Explore RCoN participant. Some have an idea of their desired nursing specialty and others are eager to explore their options.

High school students spent the day in patient care units across HCA Midwest Health including: NICU, labor and delivery, mother baby, pediatrics, burn, cardiology, ICU and ER.

They witnessed the vital role nurses play in patient care, support and education. We're proud share these experiences with the support of our clinical partners at Research Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Centerpoint Medical Center.

Each student left Explore RCoN with resources to help them on their pathway to college readiness and into a healthcare career.

This summer's scholarships were available from The Research Foundation thanks to a grant from the R. A. Long Foundation. We extend a special thanks to our community partners who join us in supporting our future nurses!

The future of nursing is here! We're kicking off the final summer session of Explore RCoN with a new group of high school juniors and seniors from across the Kansas City metro.

Take a look at their first day on campus learning vital signs, hand hygiene for infection prevention, and how to save a life with Stop The Bleed training.

We toured HCA Midwest Health transport helicopter and ambulance, plus the radiology unit at Research Medical Center.

From the bedside to the boardroom, RCoN alumni are on the move! Menorah Medical Center recently named Kirk McCarty (MSN '05) as its new CEO.

Kirk earned his degree in Executive Practice & Healthcare Leadership at RCoN. He held various nursing, operational, and service line leadership roles, including VP of operations and associate chief nursing officer, before relocating to Colorado to serve as COO and later CEO.

We're proud to welcome him back to Kansas City and look forward to seeing the impact he continues to make caring for our communities!
