Last Friday night, CSD Credit Union employees got to go to Prom! We had a blast and helped raise money for the North Kansas City School District. We even got to meet KC Wolf!

CSD was invited by PrepKC to participate in the Grandview High School Career Fair, speaking to seniors about what working at a credit union is like. We had a great time!

There are some exciting things happening at CSD Credit Union and the North Kansas City School District!

VERY COOL THINGS HAPPENING!

Main focus was an update to the COLLEGE AND CAREER PATHWAYS!



(new hashtag, the goal is every student at NKC Schools is college and career ready at graduation!)

There was data shared, but I want to focus on the two presentations for two super cool opportunities our district has started and continues great work on:

CSD Credit Union and Class Act Coffee - Now Open

Starting with the NOW OPEN Class Act Coffee shop!

What a task to take on-you could see his passion for this project in his presentation.

What do kids involved in this opportunity learn? So many career ready skills!

-Project Management
-Team Building/Collaborating (ALL 4 HIGH SCHOOLS WORK TOGETHER ON THIS PROJECT! ❤️🩵💜💚)
-Surveys and studies to identify target market
-Visiting local coffee vendors to learn the business: history, distribution, pricing, global market
-Communications-Marketing and Social Media
-Broadway Roasterie supplies beans
-Meeting with Entrepreneur owner of Parkville Coffee inspiring our young with her journey! 🤩
-Certifications! 8 students now have food handler certification and 5 have or are working on food manager certification! 😲

COMMUNITY is one of my favorite words, and THAT is what this project creates! Kids are meeting community members that come in to meet and work! (Ah, customer service and interpersonal communication skills-MORE SKILLS!!)

One thing teacher, Mr Zach Johnson mentioned that stuck out to me: Student attendance not great at school-but they SHOW UP here. They see and feel the VALUE. (I would also say they feel THEIR value!)

Proof that when you have PURPOSE, you can thrive!

He also called the coffee shop the “Front door to the district”; Community can come in and see what’s happening, meet students in a community and learning setting! Wow!!

Whos going to meet me for coffee here next week?!? 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏽🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏾‍♂️

We were also introduced to ANOTHER amazing opportunity with a local credit union CSD Credit Union!

CEO Edward Watts has been an amazing supporter of the Work based Learning opportunity at the District.

Some things he stated:
We have a responsibility to support the kids and the community! You have to have a Win/Win mindset!!

Do you know they are working on a student run credit union at Tonka?!?

I work in the credit union world-and am a firm believer in the “Credit Union Movement”-I absolutely LOVE this for our students. 💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️

Keep in mind, this is the beginnings of these programs and opportunities. Where can we take this?!?
