Missouri lawmakers are voting to change that The measure removes the “special treatment of Jackson County and provides the Jackson County citizens the opportunity to elect their county assessor just like other charter counties,” said Rep. Dan Stacy, a Blue Springs Republican.

Missouri Attorney General sues Jackson County over ‘illegal’ property assessments The lawsuit from Republican Andrew Bailley alleges that Jackson County's assessment process was unlawful and filled with systemic failures, “from failing to provide proper notice and inspections under the law, to coercing property owners to drop their appeals."

Judge Spencer said in the final judgment that county officials produced inaccurate property assessments, failed to adequately notify property owners of certain rights and failed to process appeals in a reasonable timeline.
The court said that the delay in processing the appeals is the consequence of such a high property value increase and the failure to, “prepare for tens of thousands of appeals.”
