Neighbors, here’s the story from Sam Zeff reporting for KCUR. Zeff interviewed Beacon Hill neighbors whose dogs were attacked on Memorial Day for his story.

Dog attacks continue as Kansas City officials decide who should run animal control KC Pet Project has handled animal control services in Kansas City for the past four years, with an emphasis on education for pet owners. Important safety alert! Please read.

Our neighbor, Tracy Hennrich, who lives at 23rd and Tracy in the Mount Prospect area of Beacon Hill (north Beacon Hill) was verbally threatened and robbed while on his regular morning walk.

The robbery happened at 24th and Troost.

The robbers, 3 young men and one young woman between ages 17-21, verbally threatened his life and demanded his phone, password, and anything else he had on his body. They got his phone, but not the password.

The robbers were in a white Pontiac Vibe. Two of them got out of the car and chased Tracy on foot. Tracy was able to get away unharmed. He has filed a police report.

Please be aware, and if you have any information, please share!

Our new KCPD community resource officers are Officers Ben Ryan ([email protected]) and Trevor Singer ([email protected]).

Please plan to attend the upcoming community crime meeting with KCPD, on Thursday, July 25, at the Scottish Rite Temple, 1330 E. Linwoid Blvd, from 6-7:30pm.

This is a chance to meet the officers who patrol our area, and have a dialogue about crime concerns in our neighborhoods.

The Center for Neighborhoods is currently taking applications for the next neighborhood leadership training Cohort 14. I just received an email that there's one week left. Here's the link to learn more and submit your application, if interested, https://cfn.umkc.edu/cohort/

I am a Cohort 12 graduate and I highly recommend this training for anyone interested in neighborhood leadership, wants to learn more about their neighborhood, or who is currently serving in neighborhood leadership (HOAs, neighborhood associations/councils, etc.).

However, there are cases where you may otherwise have an interest in that neighborhood organization that are not residential in nature. People who own bus...

Why is mixed-income housing critical to building our communities ?

See what UNI’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Saleem Rasheed, had to say:

“Mixed-income housing creates opportunities for communities to come together because it provides an avenue for people from different socioeconomic statuses to come together and learn from each other. Diversity in a neighborhood is a better reflection of the diversity in a society. I also believe that everyone having the same access to resources and basic services creates a more cohesive environment where neighbors become more relatable to each other.”
