is a Native Hawaiian-owned business that emerged from a deeply personal journey. Founded by Lai Sha Bugado on the Big Island of Hawai’i in 2014, KUMUMEA was born out of the need to cope with the mental, emotional, and financial challenges following a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis. Today, KUMUMEA has evolved into a platform for sharing resilience and hope through its products, which are deeply rooted in Native Hawaiian and Paniolo culture.
Their collections—Hiapo, Kaona, Ho'ola, Ulana, and Na'iau—are inspired by the living elements of Lai Sha’s children's birth names. She is committed to fostering hope, healing, and empowerment within our community, weaving together the threads of tradition, innovation, and compassion through our products. KUMUMEA’s vision is to create purposeful products that seamlessly blend elegance with functionality, enriching the journey of life for their customers worldwide.
“Since becoming involved with INPEACE Center Entrepreneurship, we have expanded awareness of our brand through television appearances and other media as part of our goal to scale our business. The financial support and reimbursement for participating as vendors at various events have been invaluable. Additionally, the community connections and relationships we have built with other entrepreneurs have been a tremendous resource. Above all, having a champion like Lisa Pakele, who is in constant contact, accessible, and always looking for opportunities for our business to grow, has been a significant benefit.”
Visit Lai Sha at her booth featuring KUMUMEA for the first time at Made in Hawai’i Festival taking place August 23- 25, 2024 at the Hawai’i Convention Center.
