Good Friday.

The only thing good about it was the one who was without sin. Who endured a torturous death by crucifixion in order to win you back to Himself. What kept Jesus on that cross was not nails or a crown of thorns or even the pain.

It was you.

You are the reason he stayed there. And His blood is the payment for the penalty of your sin and my sin. Upon the cross, Jesus drank the cup of God’s wrath that had your name on it. Why? So you wouldn’t have to.

The spotless lamb was slain so that you could live with Him forever in peace. Turn from your sin, place your faith in Him, and experience life!

that’s the good news of Good Friday. And it doesn’t end on Friday….Sunday is coming.

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

1 Peter 1:18-19

God is not far…

the beautiful irony about your story and mine is that they are not about us at all!

they’re about Jesus. it all goes back to the goodness of Jesus.

your testimony is powerful because it displays the power of God!

resurrection Sunday.

our Savior returns, with the keys to the grave in His hands.

death is defeated.

we are justified now. Not by ourselves, but by Christ.

our Lord is not dead,

He is risen.

Good Friday.

the Savior willingly lays down His life to absorb the sins of all humanity.

executed in the most horrific way. His friends betray Him. His people betray Him. He is found guilty despite being known as innocent. The death sentence.

to pardon you and to pardon me.

to have right standing before God.

perfect love and perfect justice were displayed.

That, indeed, is a “good” Friday.

Haven’t done one of these guys in a minute! It’s been fun getting back into painting. This piece in particular was equally as fun as it was challenging. People can be difficult to paint, but I love how it turned out!!

Been too long since I’ve done one of these. Felt good to get back to painting! Had a lot of fun with this piece. Painting people can definitely be a challenge, but I love how it turned out!

He is not a far-away, impersonal god. Rather, a God who is near to His people.

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”

what is it and why is it important??

Sabbath means “day of rest.” We see in Genesis at the conclusion of creation, the Lord taking a day of rest- or sabbath. The Lord later commands us to remember the sabbath and to keep it holy. What does holy mean?? In its simplest definition, holy means to be set apart. So our command it to set apart the sabbath.

It’s important to note that the sabbath is a literal 24 hour period. No metaphor or allegory here, but a literal 24 hour resting period. There are 2 reasons for us taking sabbath. The first is imitation. We keep the sabbath because God did so. The second reason we keep the sabbath is for liberation. But liberation from what??

Well, in Deuteronomy 5, we see a new generation about to enter into the promised land. And the grounds for the sabbath at this time was for liberation, or freedom. In essence what this means is that we are to be liberated or freed for one day a week from “doing” and take the day to be. Be in the presence of the Lord with work far from your mind. This eventually results in deep rest and renewal, which was God’s plan for us all along!

So, next time you want to “grind” for 7 days a week, remember that resting for one day is in God’s top ten ;) keep the sabbath holy, set it apart and make that time untouchable!

this new year, let’s talk to God more. Not simply about Him or around Him, but directly to Him. There’s a difference. And I think if we do, we will see and experience life in an incredible way!

those of us who follow Jesus, this world is not our home!! The home we await for will be without pain, sadness, death, depression, anxiety, grief, and sorrow. But while we’re here, let’s get as many people as we can into our home!

Gospel = good news!!

Such a powerful and overwhelming truth! The Lord not only forgives our sins, but He forgets them! He puts them out of His mind. And not because of anything you or I did, but because of His character!!

“I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more.”

Isaiah 43:25

it’s true. The Lord is so kind to give us good gifts. They are to be enjoyed! However, when we love the gift more than we love the gift giver....idolatry enters the picture.
