I found myself making an unexpected stop to check on ITO (Italian Toy Operations) at Porto Pescara in Cefalù Sicily! It’s a little marina introduced to me by my Elf Julie. If you’re ever in the area, the Molo 19 restaurant & bar facing the Adriatic Sea is delizioso!
Special shout out to Parisian Elf Alix who was also in town overseeing QA. He made sure to leave Santa’s sticker at the historic marina!

The Story of Santa Flavious
Where did these two come from? What in the Jack Frost kind of a name is “Flavious?” Is that beard real? Where does Joshua get his tights?
We’ve been asked so many great questions and we’d like to give you.... SOME answers. :)
Growing up, Christmas was always a big deal in the Flavious household. Having a momma who loved hosting and making others feel welcome, especially during the holidays, did not go unnoticed by this future Christmas ambassador. And when it came to Christmas decorations, it was always a great mystery how our family was able to find the storage space in the off-season for the amount that momma seemed to accumulate over the years.
And so, the Christmas seed was planted early and with it, the anticipation and even comfort, as I watched my family grow even closer during the most wonderful time of the year. Sure, I eventually grew up and even became a father myself. However, the wonder that Christmas brought never left me. Watching that same joy through little eyes only strengthened the hold that Christmas had on me.
When my son reached high school, his school needed a Santa in their Christmas play and I got the call. I jumped at the chance! The costume: decent. The beard: not real. If I had been given some advanced notice, I could’ve given Gandalf a run for his money. No notice = fake beard. The residual effect was the same: being Santa is a great gig.
What pulled on my heart strings equally, if not more, was seeing my own father show up at the same high school production. My dad, who actually bore an uncanny resemblance to an authentic Santa at the time (see pic below), arrived early and took a seat in the lobby next to “Mrs. Claus” who was perched on a bench for photo ops.
Naturally, children were mesmerized by my dad and they were convinced that he was “The” Santa. At that point, it had been just over a year since my mom passed away and with her, his interest in Christmas. But what a beautiful sight it was when Mrs. Claus had dad in stitches as he laughed so hard his side ached and as children requested pictures with him and he just went with it. And there he was, during the show, seated in the front row, as his son, “Santa” made an entrance from the back of the auditorium. I looked at him and much to the laughter of the audience, through the PA system, asked him, “Are you trying to put me out of a job sir?” Many people forgot about their cares that afternoon, not the least of which was my father. I had such a great time, especially interacting with the little ones.
