Introducing Our New Executive Director: Marco Garcia

The Joe Joe Bear Foundation is thrilled to welcome Marco Garcia as our new Executive Director. Marco brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and a profound personal journey that aligns perfectly with our mission.

About Marco Garcia

Born in Mexico and raised in El Paso, TX, Marco’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination. Growing up below the poverty level as an immigrant, Marco's family faced numerous challenges. Despite these hurdles, he chose to serve his country, joining the Army at 17. His service included three combat tours in Iraq and a transition to becoming an Army officer after earning a Bachelor's in Psychology.

Marco’s personal experiences, including the loss of his sister and mother, and supporting his wife through her battle with stage 3 breast cancer, have fueled his passion for giving back. His three children, Gavin, Leilani, and Liam, are his source of strength and inspiration.

Leading Our Expansion and Operation Teddy Bear

Marco will be spearheading our expansion efforts in the San Antonio and Austin areas and will also be heading up Operation Teddy Bear. This newly redefined program will continue to provide comfort and support to children and families facing serious illnesses, with enhanced focus and resources. Under Marco's leadership, we are confident that Operation Teddy Bear will reach new heights and touch more lives than ever before.

Our Story

The Joe Joe Bear Foundation was created
in memory of Joseph David Ordaz who

Joe had a bone marrow transplant on
July 17, 2008 that the doctors thought

December 3, 2008 he found out the
cancer was back. Joe was undergoing
treatment to prepare for a second.
transplant when he asked for a teddy bear to hold while he was alone so that he could feel like
we were with him always. Joe was so full of life and had a smile that would light up a room whenever he entered.
He was always in good spirits and always tried to make people
smile, he is deeply missed.

The charity was created to keep Joe’s memory alive and to help others in the same situation.
It saddened him to hear the children crying at night in the hospital when they were alone and
scared, he would say, “he wished he could help comfort the sick children.”
