WOMEN’S WELDING
This exciting 3-day camp is for high school and women ages 16+ interested in
exploring the art and science of metalwork through the medium of welding.
Students will work with Davis Tech faculty and students to learn different
processes, metal tolerances, and design techniques to create beautiful and
useful pieces. The camp will include career exploration, featured guests, local
company tours, and hands-on activities.
Students should plan to wear long pants, close-toed shoes, non-flammable
clothing, and avoid hanging jewelry.
June 5-7, 2023, 8 am-3 pm
High school students attend a 4-day construction
bootcamp and get hands-on experience from
construction professionals. Attendees will build a
corn hole game, visit commercial construction sites,
learn how to operate heavy equipment, and discover
more about career pathways and summer jobs.
At the end of the week, attendees will have the
opportunity to meet with additional employers and
celebrate their week-long projects with a BBQ.

Last week we held our regional SkillsUSA Electrical competition. We had over 40 high school and post secondary students participate! We will be sending the best of the best to SkillsUSA-Utah !! Huge thanks to Cerrowire and Orbit Industries, Inc. for donating wire and material and CR Lighting & Electric, Inc. For the support judging the competition!

Skills USA REGIONAL COMPETITION. Davis Tech will be sending 6 Students to the State Skills USA competition in March. Davis Tech We Change Lives.

We’ve partnered with Weber State and Ogden School District Youth Build program on a single family home being built in Ogden as part of a revitalization effort in the area.

Davis Tech students from Building Construction and Plumbing have been working on the project since early November, and the Electrical students will begin wiring after the Holiday break. It’s been neat to watch the students apply the skills and knowledge that they learn in our classrooms and labs to a real world project. Although very cold and wet at times, students are engaged and eager to help. You often see them taking photos of one another to send to parents and friends of what they have accomplished.

So far we have helped with a number of things, including: Underground drains and water lines, underground electrical, sill plates, walls, trusses ( set by hand…not exactly easy work), roof sheathing, and interior walls. We plan on helping with a lot more throughout the process and I’ll pass along info and pics as we go along.

We have created this Davis Tech Electrician Apprentice Alumni group so that current and former students and employers have somewhere to share employment opportunities, catch up with old schoolmates, and see what the Electrician Program at Davis Tech is up to! Spread the word to all Davis Tech Electrician Alumni

Special thanks to Hughes construction and Young Automotive for hosting students from our construction trades programs this week. Students were able to tour a jobsite and learn about career opportunities in the industry.

This week, our Electrical Apprenticeship students were able to have a chance to qualify for the Ideal National Championship. Representatives from IDEAL Electrical came and put on a qualifying round at our school for our electricians to do their best to qualify. They also raffled off lots of prizes for our students and gave away free gifts. It was a great experience and we hope to have Electricians from our school represented at the IDEAL National Championships in Tampa FL here in November. Thanks again IDEAL Industries!
