The primary grass grown in Utah is cool-season grass. Cool-season grasses thrive best in spring and fall due to their growth cycles but can experience stress in summer from heat and inadequate water. One effective way to manage lawn quality and reduce water consumption is to follow the state watering guidelines specific to your area, which will indicate how often to water per week: https://conservewater.utah.gov/weekly-lawn-watering-guide/
Watering ½ inch per irrigation can be difficult to measure. The Weber Basin Water Conservancy District offers a free do-it-yourself water audit kit. When used correctly, this kit will help you understand your sprinkler system's application rate and the uniformly of water distribution across your lawn. This will help you to adjust watering times for each zone to achieve the recommended ½ inch of water, and identify areas that may be receiving insufficient water due to sprinkler system issues that require repair or improvement. You can pick up your audit kit at the Weber Basin Water Conservancy's Office located at 2837 E Highway 193, Layton, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Kaysville Cemetery crews do a complete cleanup of all decorations beginning on the fourth week of every month. Please come and remove anything you wish to be saved before Monday. All flowers and decorations will be removed and disposed of, except for items placed in integrated permanent vases on headstone monuments. For questions, contact the Cemetery Office at 801-497-7140.
The City offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 24 in observance of Pioneer Day. Garbage collection will not be delayed because of the holiday.
If you have any questions please call 801-546-1235.

Kaysville’s 2024 Unsung Hero
Jerry Goodspeed has been named Kaysville’s Unsung Hero for 2024 by Mayor Tran. He was honored at Kaysville's Patriotic Devotional and in the 4th of July Parade.
Jerry, originally from Washington, holds a Bachelor's in Horticulture from Washington State University and a Master's in Plant Science from Utah State University. He moved to Kaysville with his family in 1991. Starting his Extension career at Salt Lake County in 1990, Jerry became Weber County’s first horticulture agent in 1994 and the inaugural director of the Ogden Botanical Gardens. In 2014, he also began directing the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville.
Throughout his 30-year career, Jerry has written numerous articles, co-authored a wildflower book, appeared on TV and radio, and received regional and national awards. Under his leadership, the USU Botanical Center has flourished with several demonstration gardens being established, including the Edible Demonstration Garden featuring over 100 fruit trees, berries, and vegetables; the expansive Varga Arboretum with over 450 tree varieties; and gardens dedicated to irises, ornamental grasses, dwarf conifers, perennials, and more. Jerry was also instrumental in the creation of the Davis Agricultural Heritage Center, which includes indoor and outdoor arenas, stalls, and parking, enhancing community access to educational and recreational opportunities across its 100 acres. The Agricultural Heritage Center serves as a hub for diverse agricultural and western-themed events, preserving Utah's agricultural legacy.

Each summer, as a proactive measure to support water quality, public works departments across the country periodically flush water out of hydrants. This process helps replace stagnant water with newer, fresher water in the culinary water system and regulates chlorine levels. While it may seem like water is being wasted, this flushed water flows through the city's storm drain system into local wetlands and eventually reaches the Great Salt Lake.
In addition to enhancing water quality, flushing hydrants enables crews to test them for proper function, ensuring readiness for future fire suppression needs.
During these operations, please refrain from touching or altering hydrants and their hoses. If you observe any unauthorized activity, please notify Kaysville City Public Works at 801-544-8112 (during business hours) or 801-299-7733 (after hours). Your cooperation is appreciated. Thank you!
Secondary Water Problems:
If you have a problem with your secondary water, such as water leaking from your meter, no water, or you can't figure out how to turn off your water, you will need to contact your secondary water service provider. Kaysville City does not service secondary water lines.
You can find your secondary water provider and their contact information by going to: https://www.kaysville.gov/186/Pressure-Irrigation
Join us in welcoming these new businesses to Kaysville!

An application from Bryan Carling, who is requesting a zone change for the property at approximately 1735 South 550 West from A-1 Light Agricultural District to R-4 One to Four Family Residential District. The subject property is 2.80 acres (121,968 ft²). The current A-1 zoning allows for agricultural production and single family dwellings with a minimum lot size of 40,000 ft².
