Join us to celebrate Arbor Day!
Date: November 6th
Time: 9:30 - 11:00.
Place: at the Pollinator Garden which is located in the Keller Pointe area behind the playground and next to the dog park.

We will be planting two desert willow trees. Cameron Scott from Bartlett Tree Experts will be on hand to give away free tree seedlings. There will be some tree prizes as well! We will set up an informational table about planting trees and their environmental impact on our world.

Mark your calendars. This will be a very exciting event!

Welcome back returning gardeners and new gardeners!

The Keller Garden Club maintains five gardens in the city: Rose Garden, Pollinator Garden, Xeriscape Garden, Mt. Gilead Memorial Garden, and Library Garden. Each month we have a workday to handle upkeep and care for these spaces.

Our September workday is this Thursday, 9/19/24. We will meet at the Rose Garden located at the Friends of the Library just east of the Keller Library at 8:30 a.m. We may disperse to other gardens from there.

Please bring small rakes, gloves, pruning shears, buckets, stool or knee pads, and water.

It was great to hear from Cody Maberry and learn about the improvements to the new Bates Street Park, Keller Sports Park, and other city parks and their landscaping improvements! Next month we will learn about gardening with bulbs!

As we get ready to welcome the fall season, we also begin a new season of the Keller Garden Club! Our first meeting is this Thursday, 9/12/24, 9:30 a.m. - 12:00, in Room 212 of Keller Town Center.

Social half hour starts at 9:30 with refreshments (bring your own coffee). Then we will hear an update on Keller’s latest projects from Cody Maberry, Keller’s Director of Community Services.

Please come join us for an interesting new year of monthly topics including bulbs, trees, soil health, and more!

Our August workday is this Thursday, 8/15/2024 starting at 8:30 a.m. We will start at the Rose Garden at the Friends of the Library next to the Keller Library. Bring the usual small garden tools and plenty of water to drink!

Thursday’s Keller Garden Club Workday had members focusing on three gardens: Rose Garden near the Keller Library, Pollinator Garden adjacent to Keller Pointe, and the Mount Gilead Memorial Garden. Big shout out to Jenny Cline, Leigh Allen and Joan Thuener for their frequent visits to the gardens to monitor maintenance needs. As always, gardening with friends enriches our connections to one another and the community. Thanks to all who could make it out! Thank you Desiree for the report and photos!

Our monthly workday is this Thursday, July 18th. We will meet at 8:30 at the Rose Garden next to the Friends of the Keller Library on Johnson Road. Bring typical small garden tools like a rake, pruning shears, gloves, and a bucket.

We had fairly comfortable weather when we met at 8:30am for our Keller Garden Club workday at the Rose Garden, in front of the Keller Friends of the Library building on Thursday, June 20th. 🌹 Roses were trimmed, weeds removed and fallen leaves tidied away. Thankfully many hands make light work, so we were all on our way by 9:45am!

We look forward to our next gathering at one of the gardens we support next month on the third Thursday.

Pollinator Week, from June 17th to 23rd, highlights the crucial role of pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds in our ecosystems and agriculture. They are essential for food production, biodiversity, and environmental health.

Visit the Pollinator Garden at Keller Pointe and see the variety of flowers maintained by the Keller Garden Club.

During Pollinator Week, we have opportunity to raise awareness about importance of pollinators and the threats they face, such as habitat loss, pesticide use, disease, and climate change.

June 6th is National Gardening Exercise Day! Let's Get Physical: it's a day to encourage us to maximize the health benefits of gardening!

But is it really exercise? Absolutely! It ALL counts...whether squatting to pick weeds or carrying bags of mulch or turning your compost pile--it all counts as physical activity!

Aside from the physical advantages of gardening--spending time with nature is good for your mental well-being.

PLUS, longevity expert, Dan Buettner, a National Geographic fellow, and author of The Blue Zones Secrets for Longer Living, says that gardening is a great longevity exercise because it's a low-intensity physical activity that encourages people to go outside every day.

Let's dig in the dirt folks!

Let’s try this again! Our rescheduled workday is this Friday, May 24th at 9:00 a.m. We will meet at the Mt. Gilead Memorial Garden. Unfortunately , rains have drowned some of the plants. Kimberly from Grow Wild Greenery will be bringing some new plants and we will work to get the garden ready for the Memorial Day Observance on May 27th. Bring normal workday tools and shovels. Boots might be a good idea if the ground is still saturated.

Let's feed the pollinators! We've added a number of new plants to the Pollinator Garden next to Keller Pointe, but we need your help to add more native plants that attract bees, hummingbirds, butterflies and more. Do you have Turk's Cap, Blanket Flowers, Milkweed and Pin Cushion? If yes, let us know and we'll arrange transport to the Pollinator Garden. Remember, pollination powers the planet!
We would love to fill the garden in time for National Pollinator Week, June 17-23....please help!

Our May workday is this Thursday, 5/16/24. We will start at 8:30 am at the Rose Garden next to the Friends of the Keller Library at 640 Johnson Road. The plan is to move over to the Mt. Gilead Memorial Garden at 1351 Bancroft Road. We need to do weeding there and possibly replace plants damaged by flooding rains. It needs to look nice for the annual Memorial Day Celebration held there. Bring small rakes, gloves, buckets.

Speaking of the Memorial Day Celebration at Mt. Gilead Cemetery…the 14th annual event will be on 5/27/2024. It is hosted by The Mt. Gilead Cemetery Association, Golden Triangle Rotary Club, and The Keller Rotary Club. The Keller Gardenn Club will be recognized for the work we have done in the gardens. There will be music, hot dogs, and drinks. There is also a flag retirement ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 1910. Feel free to bring any flags you need to retire. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and more information is on their website at: mtgileadcem.org.

Much appreciation to City of Keller, Cody Maberry and his team for helping to install four new pollinator signs in Keller Pollinator Garden by Keller Pointe! Please stop by to learn more about pollinators and see if you can locate specific plants within the garden.

Keller Garden Club met at the Keller Pollinator Garden today to celebrate the placement of 4 new signs in the garden bed area. The signs include QR codes and provide more information about many of the native perennials currently residing in the garden! Pollinators are essential to the survival of many flowering plants, promoting production of over 85% of our food and fiber producing crops!

We’ve also been working to replenish the garden area with native plants such as gaura, butterfly bushes, salvia, shasta daisies, milkweed, coneflowers, black-eyed susans and much more! We hope to create a hive of activity from pollinators, like butterflies, bees, wasps, and moths and serve up a season-long buffet of nectar and pollen. YUM! 😋

BEE on the lookout for these pollinators as you cruise past the garden and we hope you enjoy all the colors that will soon be bursting on the scene!

Keller Garden Club has been busy as bees preparing new signage for the Pollinator Garden located by Keller Pointe. Check out the new signs the next time you’re traveling on the Bear Creek trails near Keller Pointe! The signs include QR codes that help you to learn more about the many flowers planted in the garden.

May is so exciting! Flowers are in bloom, grass is green AND we have our annual potluck! We will meet this Thursday, 5/9/2024 at the Pollinator Garden at Keller Pointe, 405 Rufe Snow Drive. Bring a dish to share. Plates , cutlery, bottled water will be provided. Bring a lawn chair to sit on.

We will also check out the new signs in the Pollinator Garden with QR codes!

The Keller Garden Club placed this tree and plaque at the Keller Pointe Pollinator Garden in honor of Mike Sexson. Mike worked for the City of Keller Parks & Recreation Department for almost 20 years and was always a strong supporter of The Keller Garden Club. He loved this community and was dedicated to keeping Keller beautiful.

The rose garden at the library is looking great! So lush and healthy! Good job!
