While newspapers often publish articles about women leaving their children on the doorsteps of houses, in containers, etc., this "irrational" mother pulled all her puppies out of the fire, carrying them one by one to the fire truck, because she knew they would be safe there. She is not trained for this. She's just a mother.

"This is me at 21 years old. This is the day I graduated from the Detroit police academy at 4:00pm, went home and took a couple hour nap, woke up at 9:30 that night and reported to my first tour of duty at the 12th Precinct for midnight shift. Look at that smile on my face. I couldn't have been more excited, more proud. Armed with my dad's badge that he wore for 25 years on my chest, one of my mom's sergeant stripe patches in my pocket, my lucky $2.00 bill tucked into my bulletproof vest, a gun I was barely old enough to purchase bullets for on my hip and enough naive courage for a small army, I headed out the door...my mom snapped this photo on my way.
The next 17 years would bring plenty of shed blood, black eyes, torn ligaments, stab wounds, stitches, funerals, a head injury, permanent and irreparable nerve damage, 5 ruptured discs, some charming PTSD and depression issues and a whole lot of heartache. They brought missed Christmases with my family, my absence from friends' birthday get-togethers, pricey concert tickets that were forfeited at the last minute because of a late call and many sleepless nights.
I've laid in wet grass on the freeway for three hours watching a team of burglars and orchestrating their apprehension, I've dodged gunfire while running down a dark alley in the middle of the night chasing a shooting suspect, I've argued with women who were too scared to leave their abusive husbands until they realized they had to or they would end up dead. I've peeled a dead, burned baby from the front of my uniform shirt, I've felt the pride of putting handcuffs on a serial ra**st and I've cried on the chest of and kissed the cheek of my dead friend, coworker and academy classmate even though it was covered in his own dried blood and didn't even look like him from all the bullet holes. I know what a bullet sounds like when it's whizzing past your ear, a few inches away, I know what the sound of a Mother's shrilling scream is like when she finds out her son has been killed in the middle of the street and I know what it's like to have to tell a wife and mother of 3 that her husband was killed in a car accident while on his way home from work.
Smells, pictures, sounds and sights are burned and engrained into our minds...things we can never forget, no matter how hard we try; things that haunt our sleep at night and our thoughts during the day; things that we volunteered to deal with so that you don't have to. Things I don't want my sister, little cousins or YOU to even have to KNOW about.
I never once went to work thinking, "I'm gonna beat someone tonight."; "Hmmm...I think I'm gonna kill someone tonight." I DID, however, go to work every night, knowing that I was going to do the best I could to keep good people safe, even if that meant that I died doing so.
We ALL need to start being more understanding and compassionate toward one another. Violence doesn't cure violence and hate doesn't cure hate. I've seen and experienced both sides of the spectrum since I left the PD and I get it. I truly do. But this all has to stop.
Are cops perfect? No. Are there bad cops? Yes. But please...understand that the vast majority of police are good, loving, well intentioned family people. They have husbands and wives and children and parents and pets and cousins and mortgages and electric bills and lawns that need cutting, just like you. They have hearts and consciences. They aren't robots, they're not machines and they just want to help keep the wolves away from the sheep. I KNOW there's people who don't deserve to wear the badge but they're SO VERY few and far between. It breaks my heart to see all this hatred and anger flying around. All it's doing is encouraging more of the same.
If you've read this far, thank you for listening. I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that if you hate or don't support one side or the other, to unfriend me and never speak to me again...I hope those are the people who come straight TO me. Because I'll be more than happy to hug you and pray or meditate with you. I'll be more than happy to listen to your concerns and let you vent and empathize with your feelings. But then I'll encourage you to help me find a solution to end all this nonsense because if we're not part of the solution, we're part of the problem. Love to all of you. ALL OF YOU. We're all SO much better than this." โค๏ธโœŒ๐Ÿผ

20 or so years ago my friend Iva's grandmother lost her diamond engagement ring while farming/gardening on her family's land near Armena (Camrose), Alberta, Canada. After many tears and hours of searching, she never did find the ring. In the end, she used her own hard earned money to replace the ring and never told her Husband!
Iva recently built a house on a portion of this family farm land. This garden has been feeding the family for years, but this year it had a special gift for them.
Guess what happened when Iva's family went to harvest some of the garden last night?!? ๐Ÿ˜ณ
Grandma's secrets are safe with mother earth no more!
The "carrot ring" has been returned to Iva's Grandma as of this morning (Aug 15, 2017) she is very happy to have the original ring her late husband proposed to her with."

What does it feel like to be old?

The other day, a young person asked me: - What did it feel like to be old?

I was very surprised by the question, since I did not consider myself old. When he saw my reaction, he was immediately embarrassed, but I explained that it was an interesting question. And after reflection, I concluded that getting old is a gift.

Sometimes I am surprised at the person who lives in my mirror. But I don't worry about those things for long. I wouldn't trade everything I have for a few less gray hairs and a flat stomach. I don't scold myself for not making the bed, or for eating a few extra "little things." I am within my rights to be a little messy, to be extravagant, and to spend hours staring at my flowers.

I have seen some dear friends leave this world, before they had enjoyed the freedom that comes with growing old.

-Who cares if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 in the morning and then sleep until who knows what time?

I will dance with me to the rhythm of the 50's and 60's. And if later I want to cry for some lost love...I will!

I'll walk down the beach in a swimsuit that stretches over my plump body and dive into the waves letting myself go, despite the pitying looks of the bikini-wearers. They'll get old too, if they're lucky...

It is true that through the years my heart has ached for the loss of a loved one, for the pain of a child, or for seeing a pet die. But it is suffering that gives us strength and makes us grow. An unbroken heart is sterile and will never know the happiness of being imperfect.

I am proud to have lived long enough for my hair to turn gray and to retain the smile of my youth, before the deep furrows appeared on my face.

Now, to answer the question honestly, I can say: -I like being old, because old age makes me wiser, freer!-.

I know I'm not going to live forever, but while I'm here, I'm going to live by my own laws, those of my heart.
I'm not going to regret what wasn't, nor worry about what will be.
The time that remains, I will simply love life as I did until today, the rest I leave to God.

"An elderly woman came into my station today and gave me $3 in change to put on her gas pump. A police officer was standing behind her and happened to hear the amount and saw she was using a cane, struggling to walk back to her car. He went outside and told her to sit in the car as he would pump the gas for her. After a few minutes of getting to know one another he realized she was really struggling and didnโ€™t have any gas or money left. The $3 will only get her so far. He told her to hang tight- came inside and put her another $20 out of his pocket. He went back and finished pumping and she told him her husband had recently passed away and sheโ€™s stuck paying all their bills and is behind every month. This $20 really helped her! She would of most likely ended up running out of gas.

Nowadays thereโ€™s so much negativity towards police officers. No one respects them. We hear all the complaints and โ€œbadโ€ stories. Iโ€™m not saying every officer is perfect, Iโ€™m sure some are at fault at times. We all make mistakes- but we should all respect, appreciate, and thank them for what they do.
Leaving your family everyday to try and make sure everyoneโ€™s elseโ€™s is safe can be tough. Think about it- who do you call when youโ€™re in danger? Whoโ€™s running in harms way as youโ€™re running away?

To all the men and women in blue I THANK YOU for your service!"

Iโ€™ll never forget this birthday party.

My husband had just been released from the ICU after an intense surgery. He couldnโ€™t walk or breathe without significant support. We begged the nurses to take him outside on the patio. We only stayed for a few minutes, because of their hectic schedules. It was barely long enough to sing, โ€œhappy birthday,โ€ and cheer as our newly minted three-year-old blew out his candles.

The scene from this picture breaks my heart in pieces.

Oh, how I wanted to give our son the best possible childhood! I would have loved to plan a big party for all his friends and neighbors. We could have had games, decorations, food, and party favors. He could have picked a superhero theme or a dinosaur theme or the characters from that TV show he loved so much.

But instead, we got this.

I felt so disappointed. His only friend was the nurse he met earlier that morning. There were no other children in sight. There were oxygen tanks instead of balloons and heart monitors instead of bounce houses. We were 1200 miles from home, and after those few minutes, we went back to being trapped in the confines of the hospital.

But do you know what our son thought of that birthday?

He called it, โ€œthe best day ever.โ€

For months, he talked about how much he loved his birthday. He raved about how his grandparents came to visit in the hospital and brought him presents of coloring books and toys. He talked about how fun it was being together and having Dad come outside to sing and watch him blow out the candles. He felt super cool when nurses and doctors came by, wished him a happy birthday, and asked how old he was. And he got to eat as much cake as he wanted.

He didnโ€™t care that it wasnโ€™t elaborate.
He didnโ€™t see that our lives were falling apart.
He only cared that we were together.
He only saw that we loved him.
I think of that sweet three-year-old perspective often. Too often, things donโ€™t go how we would like. Too often, our lives are strides away from ideal.

But when we notice the things that we do have, we end up with a lot of โ€œbest days everโ€ that we otherwise might have missed.

On a September Saturday.

Rain's embrace, the earthy scent,
it gently fell upon the brown-leafed oak,
till branches swayed,
a steadfast sentinel of the ages,
a witness to a thousand stories,
a shelter for lovers and the lost.

In stillness draped,
the world beyond rested in calm repose,
cocooned in the placid rhythm,
the solace of the soft rain.

Within, an aged desk by the opened window,
ink-stained and scuffed, where tales were born,
Alice held her fountain pen, her soul's key.

The soft patter of the breeze,
her soothing score,
leaves whispered,
in moments when the world withdrew.

The fountain began to flow,
with every stroke,
her pen danced
a tale took flight,
worlds began to grow,
in this rainy, September dream,
leaves whispered her heart's intent.

Lost in creation's sweet embrace,
nature's rhythms set the pace,
capturing the oak, the girl, the twilight.

Hours ebbed as day turned dark,
through woven words, she painted scenes,
September's magic in her dreams.

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think most kids today know what an apron is. The principle use of Mom's or Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..

And when the weather was cold, she wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, she walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about aprons.

REMEMBER:

Mom's and Grandma's used to set hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love

Actor, film director, film producer and musician Keanu Charles Reeves (Keanu Charles Reeves), missed the first 20 minutes of the party dedicated to the end of filming of his new film in one of the clubs in New York.

He waited patiently in the rain to be let in.

No one recognized him.

The club owner said: "I didn't even know Keanu was standing in the rain waiting to be let in - he didn't say anything to anyone."

"He travels by public transport".

"He easily communicates with homeless people on the street and helps them".

- He is only 56 years old (September 2, 1964)
- He can just eat a hot dog in the park, sitting between ordinary people.

- After filming one of the "Matrix", he gave all the stuntmen a new motorcycle - in recognition of their skill.

- He gave up most of the fee for the salaries of costume designers and computer scientists who draw special effects in "The Matrix" - decided that their share of participation in the budget of the film was underestimated.

- He reduced his fee in the film The Devil's Advocate" to have enough money to invite Al Pacino.

- Almost at the same time his best friend died; his girlfriend lost a child and soon died in a car accident, and his sister fell ill with leukemia.

Keanu did not break: he donated $ 5 million to the clinic that treated his sister, refused to shoot (to be with her), and created the Leukemia Foundation, donating significant sums from each fee for the film.
