Maine State Bar Association 11/21/2022

Come see me on November 30th as part of a fantastic panel discussion about the business of law…an important topic that they don’t teach in law school. Even more important that it’s an all female panel organized by the Women’s Law Section. Plus, it’s in person and there’s wine!

Supreme Court won’t block Indiana University vaccine mandate as Justice Barrett rejects student plea 08/13/2021

We have gotten multiple inquiries from folks concerned about vaccine mandates in a number of settings. We are not taking those cases unless other circumstances suggest discrimination or retaliation. All precedent points to these mandates being permissible and necessary.

Supreme Court won’t block Indiana University vaccine mandate as Justice Barrett rejects student plea It is the first case about mandatory coronavirus vaccinations to reach the Supreme Court, but Justice Amy Coney Barrett gave no reason for rejecting the request.

What’s wrong with plaintiff’s lawyers? - ABA for Law Students 03/26/2021

https://abaforlawstudents.com/2016/04/06/whats-wrong-with-plaintiffs-lawyers/

What’s wrong with plaintiff’s lawyers? - ABA for Law Students Short Answer: Nothing. Most corporate defendants, insurance companies, and “tort reformers” would have you believe that plaintiffs and their greedy lawyers have caused increased health care costs, inflation, joblessness, global famine, and any other social ill they can muster. I feel like this ....

Anti-Asian attacks rise along with online vitriol 03/18/2021

The rise in discriminatory attitudes toward Asian Americans (especially when our former president gave a direct voice to the hate) is so shocking and unacceptable. No one should have to live in fear like this. Please reach out to us if you have experienced discrimination, retaliation, injury, or a hate crime. We can help protect your rights.

Anti-Asian attacks rise along with online vitriol Data shows that terms such as “China,” “Wuhan” and “flu” have surged on far-right forums on Telegram, 8kun and TheDonald.win since the election.

Supreme Court rules gay, transgender people are protected from job discrimination 06/15/2020

https://www.pressherald.com/2020/06/15/justices-rule-gay-transgender-people-are-protected-from-job-discrimination/

Great news from the Supreme Court today! The Supreme Court ruled gay and transgender people are protected from employment discrimination under Title VII. Maine already had such protections in place under the Maine Human Rights Act. We are happy to see an expansion of rights nationwide.

“An employer who fires an individual for being homos*xual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different s*x. S*x plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the court.

Supreme Court rules gay, transgender people are protected from job discrimination The Supreme Court has ruled that a landmark civil rights law protects gay and le***an people from discrimination in employment.

Home - Black Lives Matter 06/08/2020

At White & Quinlan, we don't just believe black lives matter. We work tirelessly on civil rights cases, including for many people of color, to make sure that black lives are given EQUAL treatment under the law. The majority of workplaces in this country have long been infected with systemic racism and we are not afraid to expose it. It's the only way forward. We don't shy away from tough cases, including excessive force claims against the police.
