There are currently no Watches or Warnings for our area.

We are watching the weather closely especially around Lunch. There is a possibility of a brief spin-up (short lived) tornado around noon today.

Now is the time to get prepared and have multipole ways to receive watches and warnings.

Yesterday’s severe weather event brought many agencies together for the community. The City was very fortunate that we did not sustain damage. We want to thank the following for being prepared and coming together for their willingness to help the OEM.

Kennett Fire Department, Kennett Police Department, Kennett 911 Communications, Kennett Street Department, Mayor & City Council Members, Kennett Public Schools.

Preparedness is key when severe weather is threatening our City. We are grateful to our partners, for we all do this to keep our community safe.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been and will continue to monitor the potential severe weather threat to our City for late tonight into the early morning hours. Due to this being a night time weather event, ensure you have a way to be notified of incoming weather. Charge your phones and ensure you know where your flashlights are in case of power outages.

*Currently we are under a Tornado Watch by the National Weather Service.*

The EOC has been monitoring the potential severe weather this morning. While it appears that it is not threatening Kennett currently. Be weather ready this afternoon. It is forecasted for potential severe weather. Always have a way to get weather alerts, either by Emergency Weather Radio or by the National Weather Service app.

A Slight Risk for severe weather is in effect for most of the Mid-South. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats.
Storms will begin to fire up around 1 PM this afternoon before discrete cell development later this evening.

857 PM CDT Wed May 8 2024.A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHEASTERN CLAY AND NORTH CENTRAL DUNKLIN COUNTIES THROUGH 930 PM CDT... At 856 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near McDougal, or 8 miles east of Corning, moving northeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Piggott, Chalk Bluff Natural Area, St. Francis, Pollard, McDougal,

Just a quick update. We are continuing to monitor the storm system to our west. The storm system looks to be in our area around 8:00 - 9:00 tonight. Again all modes of weather are possible, including very large hail and large tornadoes.

We will keep you updated as more information comes in.

Here's the latest outlook graphic for the severe weather potential this afternoon and evening through the overnight hours. Widespread storms are expected with high-end severe weather potential. Damaging winds possibly exceeding 80 mph, very large hail, and tornadoes are possible with these storms.

Remember to have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings. This will mainly be an overnight event, so make sure everything is turned up so that you can be woke up!
