ARTS MEMBER OF THE MONTH

With the support of the Natalie Lee and Shirley Madrigrano Arts Foundation, the Club will be highlighting some of our amazing youth artists from our Teen Center on a monthly basis. We work hard to provide our Teens with opportunities every day to participate in arts programs including dance, music, painting, crafts and digital arts. These are opportunities that our members may otherwise not have access to and through our arts programs, members are able to use their creativity to create great works of art.

For the month of August, we are highlighting Jimeria. Jimeria is 14 years old and is a junior in High School. Learn more about Jimeria on our website at https://www.bgckenosha.org/arts-member-of-the-month/.

Be Inspired - BGCK Youth Center Girls Scamps Story

A small group of our youth center members, thanks to a grant received, were able to attend our Scamps gymnastics program and they wanted to share how that has impacted them.

At first the girls were nervous, but when they entered Scamps and saw all the trampolines and bars and met the staff, they felt much better. They said the lessons were very challenging but they enjoyed being able to jump around, hang on bars, and learn gymnastics.

The girls were very appreciative of this opportunity and of the staff at Scamps. We couldn't be more proud to support them and give them opportunities they wouldn't normally have.

One of the youth in our Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is spending his summer working in the Club's kitchen, learning meal preparation and cleanup procedures. Although he had never been in a professional kitchen or cooked a meal before, he quickly adapted and excelled in his role. His performance has been outstanding, and we are grateful for the opportunity to mentor him in a potential career path.

For those unfamiliar, the Club's SYEP is a job training program for youth interested in career exploration, training, and work experiences. Participants collaborate with local businesses and technical schools to develop job skills that enhance their future opportunities. The program exemplifies successful partnerships between Kenosha County Government, the Kenosha Unified School District, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Community Impact Programs, and participating worksites.

You can learn more about this program at https://www.bgckenosha.org/program-areas/teen-programs/youth-employment-program/.
