Elect Shukri Olow for State Representative, 47th Legislative District
Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Elect Shukri Olow for State Representative, 47th Legislative District, Political Candidate, Kent, WA.
Election day is today and once again I am filled with gratitude. My name, of course, comes from the word Shukran, meaning "grateful."
I came to this community as a child who fled everything she knew due to war and civil unrest, to one day run to walk the marble steps in Olympia. I know how important voting and participating in this democracy is - and how fragile it can be.
The reason I ran is rooted in what I want to pass on to my neighbors: education, housing, safety, and belonging.
So many elected and community leaders, as well as so many incredible organizations, have endorsed this race. We raised a hundred thousand dollars, knocked on thousands of doors, and made more phone calls and texts than I can count. We had folks showing up at our canvasses, as well as amazing volunteers who came out midweek to walk their neighbors solo.
I am strengthened by the belief that so many held in me and what this history-making race is about.
So --- go vote! And if you need support with your ballot, go here to King County Elections! kingcounty.gov/depts/elections/how-to-vote/ballots/returning-my-ballot.aspx
Thank you again, friends - Shukran.

This is the last of the campaign season - albeit on a Sunday (campaign life gets so busy!):
Closing this series out with a Somali grocer on the East Hill that sells Halal foods and Somali specialty products.
When I first came to Kent as a child, it was not as easy to find foods that could feel like the home we left behind. It's great to see how people like me are not only surviving, but thriving by providing comfort to those who left their first homes behind.
Small, family run businesses make all the difference in our community, and especially these mom and pop shops who re-connect us with our roots.
This is what makes Kent the 7th most diverse city in the country so special. This is the kind of community I will fight for: where all of us can survive and thrive.
And in the meantime, I'm going to pick up some soft drinks that I've missed tasting.
I appreciate all the support from everyone who came out to get out the vote - at the doors, by text, and by phone.
Special shout out to my friends at the Washington Education Association who are showing up even in the midst of a wild time in the school year. You are the MVPS!
Come out tonight and phone bank with SEIU 925, and tomorrow morning at 11 AM Kent-Meridian High School as we go canvassing!
Thank you, 47th LD!
Thank you for your sole endorsement Washington State Federation of Democratic Women!

Thank you so much, Moms Demand Action - WA! I am proud to be a candidate of distinction when it comes to reasonable gun safety and gun violence prevention measures.
As a mom of two school-aged kids, as a victim of gun violence, and as the sole candidate endorsed by public educators, this distinction is personal. Uvalde shook me to my core as did all of the other countless tragedies in our community and nation.
As State Representative, I will continue to build on common sense solutions to make our homes and communities safer.
I needed to do a few re-takes for my "I voted" video because people kept stopping to say "I voted for you!"
Here are some of the shots.
Go vote!!
Happy Halloween to all celebrating tonight!
And if you got to spend a weekend at a Halloween event - thank a union for that weekend 🥳
Be diligent and check your child’s candy this year. I found a union card in my daughter’s Snickers and now she’s renegotiated her allowance and wants hazard pay for taking out the trash. No words.
We are at Lezzet Turkish Brunch in the City of Auburn today for our Business Spotlight. As you can see, the food was delicious and the hospitality was felt. Check them out and eat good!
Had a chance to stop by my old stomping grounds at Green River College in the City of Auburn!
I was a running start student here years back and received my Associates degree while I was a HS student! It was a great opportunity to learn more about how the College has expanded over the years and what more a State Representative can do to better support the community here.
Honored to be in the presence of Director Marwa and meet some of the student government representatives as a former member of student government myself. 🥳
The only kind of political spin anyone needs.
Come hit the streets and canvass with me this Saturday! (dancing optional)

To all celebrating today, may you be filled with light, prosperity, and joy today and always!
Let's build a brighter world together.
Happy Sunday to all in the 47th Legislative District!
Our community is blessed with a rich diversity of faith traditions. Earlier this week I got to participate in a race and faith dialogue at Kent Lutheran Church.
I also got to join friends, including Rep. Elect Jamila Taylor and Hira Singh, at Khalsa Gurmat Center.
Tomorrow is Diwali and I wish a bright and joyous festival to all celebrating.
Today is also and I checked out Indian Selection in Kent, home to beautiful dresses that can also be custom tailored. This family-run business has been operating on the East Hill since 2012, and they are proud of the love and care they put into each article of clothing. Learn more at https://theindianselection.com/
A little rain isn't going to stop us, especially when ballots are starting to pour in!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Working Families Party for the community canvass for me and to re-Elect Debra Entenman. Despite the downpour we knocked hundreds of doors today!
We even got to register new voters. Joining me during my canvassing was Jacques. Jacques is originally from Congo, and a newly registered voter as of Monday! Be like Jacques - register to vote and then get your neighbors to do it too!
It's tomorrow! 📢
Walk to elect me and *re-elect* Rep Elect Debra Entenman for 47th LD House with Working Families Party and more – sign up now to join me!
10/22 Walk for Shukri Olow and Debra Entenman for 47th LD House · Washington Working Families Party Join us and our allies to talk to voters about Debra Entenman and Shukri Olow for the State House in the 47th LD. Both of these candidates are community leaders and will stand up for working families. We need leaders like Rep. Entenman and Dr. Shukri Olow who will stand up for a community for all, i...
Get up, go dance, and GO VOTE!
Thanks for the video AND the endorsement, SEIU Local 925!
Special thanks to Darnell of SEIU 925 for your creativity!
One more highlight from a very busy weekend: The Washington State Labor Council's Labor Neighbor event. Thank you for your endorsement, WA AFL-CIO, and thank you to the many partner labor organizations supporting my campaign.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with SEIU Local 925 this weekend. This is the union that my mom and so many more of my loved ones are part of. It's the organization that helped make sure that we could survive and thrive when we first moved here to Washington. To be part of their event for sole endorsed candidates was beyond gratifying.
Thank you, childcare providers and caretakers - let's do this!
I'm so grateful to everyone who came out in this smokey weather from Working Families Party, SEIU Local 925, The Washington Bus and more to canvass the 47th Legislative District. It's people like you who make all the difference.
Missed out today? Join us next week at TeamShukriOct22.eventbrite.com
Witnessed staff at Foss' Grocery & Deli in Covington paying it forward, and I decided to join in by getting snacks for young people shopping. Shout out to Carla for her act of kindness to our youth! Foss has been a family-owned staple to the Covington area for generations - check them out if you haven't already, and Happy , everyone!
Thank you to Holly, Regan and Covington Mayor Wagner for a tour of the City of Covington last evening.
As a former student of Crestwood Elementary in Covington, and as a product of this community, it was a great opportunity to learn more about the development and growth of this wonderful city. I look forward to deepening our partnership. 🙏🏿
Indigenous Peoples' Day is about more than one day out of the year. While today is a day to commemorate and honor past, present, and future of those who have stewarded this land since time immemorial, it is also a call to commitment for indigenous rights and to celebrate indigenous culture year-round.
Beautiful event over the weekend with my friends from SEIU Local 925 childcare providers. It was a lovely time at Lido Restaurant to gather over food and our shared love for our community members of all ages.
Thank you for hosting me at your "Launching a Legacy" forum yesterday, Kent Black Action Commission!
It's crunch time in this campaign season, which got me in the mood for some crispy fried chicken and cornbread!
Fueled up at Nana's Southern Kitchen in between canvassing and another campaign event. Thanks for the delicious food, and happy , Nana's!
Grateful to all the volunteers showing up throughout the week, including today. While we still have Saturday canvass opportunities, reach out if you'd like to join any other time!
P.S. it was a pleasure to meet Grandma Dorothy, the daughter of Nana and a true inspiration!
Thanks to the Kent Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to gather and to share about our vision for the 47th Legislative District.
As your representative, my focus will be on opportunity for all, through education, public safety, childcare, senior care, housing, and more.
The highlight of my day was connecting with active students at Kent Meridian’s Model UN club. I was a participant back in the day (not sharing when 😉). SO good to connect with the Co-Presidents Aicha, Bethany and Don, ASU President at KM and a pleasure to meet with the rest of this incredible team.
Our young people are the present and the future.
Thank you for your endorsement, Children's Campaign Fund! I look forward to working with you on policies and issues that directly impact youth, their education, their wellness, and their welfare.
Wishing all observing Yom Kippur an easy fast and a meaningful time to reflect with loved ones.
Thank you, Covington Chamber Of Commerce - Covington, WA for hosting the candidate forum last night! It was great to listen to questions that are top of mind for 47th Legislative District voters, and I was glad to share my story and my vision for this district rooted in education, housing, care, and opportunities for all who also call this place home.
