As LTC Kim of 2-3 Infantry, known as the Patriots, explained to us, the National Guard plays a crucial role on the modern battlefield. The National Guard is composed of citizen-soldiers who are able to respond to emergencies at home while also deploying overseas in support of our nation's defense. They bring unique skills and expertise to the table, such as specialized training in disaster response and homeland security, that complement the active duty military's capabilities. With their dual mission, the National Guard is an essential part of our nation's defense strategy.

As General David Petraeus once said, "Reserve forces are an essential component of our nation's defense. They provide a flexible and responsive capability that enables us to respond to a wide range of challenges, both at home and abroad. The men and women of our reserve forces are dedicated, highly trained professionals who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the fight." The National Guard embodies this spirit of dedication and professionalism, and their contributions to our nation's defense cannot be overstated.

As Admiral William H. McRaven once said, "True military friendship is about loyalty, selflessness, and a willingness to go above and beyond for the good of others. Behind every great battalion are exceptional leaders and top-notch tactics. That's why the Dark Rifles are the premier infantry battalion in the US Army. We're always refining our strategies and seeking guidance from the best in the business. This past drill, we had the honor of hosting Admiral James Kelly, who shared his invaluable lessons learned in leadership and tactics. We're grateful for the opportunity to learn from the best and become even stronger as a unit.

On this day two years ago, the Dark Rifles ADVON bid farewell to their loved ones as they embarked on a deployment to Poland for the Enhanced Forward Presence mission. Their sacrifice and dedication to the mission is a testament to the courage and commitment of our service members, and we are forever grateful for their service.
The Enhanced Forward Presence missions are a critical component in deterring hostile aggression towards the free world. By deploying troops to strategic locations, such as Poland, we are able to maintain a strong and visible presence in regions where security threats exist. This not only enhances our ability to respond to potential threats, but it also serves as a message of solidarity to our allies, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to global security and stability.
