Dog Days of Summer
Get ready for a doggone good time! Join us Saturday, Aug. 3, for Dog Days of Summer and embark on a leisurely sunset stroll through the Kent Campus with your pup followed by a celebratory “Yappy Hour” where all of our canine friends will receive an honorary degree and adults can enjoy a complimentary drink. Serve. Unite. Inspire. Kent State volunteers joined forces to help clean up downtown Canton, making the community cleaner and more beautiful for its residents to enjoy this spring. Through efforts like these, Golden Flashes are making a positive impact in their communities around the world. #FlashesGiveBack

On Saturday, Golden Flashes came together to support Kent State international students during #FlashesGiveBack Week! They wrote heartfelt notes of encouragement and assembled care packages filled with healthy snacks to keep students energized as they study for their final exams.

Hands of Gratitude
Golden Flashes volunteered at the Design Innovation Hub Wednesday to assemble 3D printed prosthetic hands for Hands of Gratitude, a heartwarming initiative uniting communities to craft and distribute these life-changing devices worldwide – all at no cost to the recipients. Ann Walter Faces of Kent State
Flipping through Seventeen magazine as a teenager, Ann Mariko Walter, ’96, M.Ed. ’19, came across an article about studying fashion design that changed her life. After graduating from Kent State, she moved to New York City and began designing for major retailers, connecting with other Kent State alumni along the way. Five years ago, Ann took on her current role as director Kent State NYC Fashion, and she now spends much of her time helping young students chase their own dreams in the Big Apple. Carol Cartwright, Ph.D.
The first female president of any public college or university in Ohio was Carol Cartwright, Ph.D., who became Kent State University’s first female president in 1991. She was passionate about eliminating barriers for aspiring college students and decreasing gender inequities in programming, athletics and other areas at the university level. Aleisha Moore, Ph.D., is exploring how the brain can influence hormones and fertility. One area of research for Moore is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition that affects nearly 10% of women. Despite the prevalence and seriousness of PCOS, the funding for research into this disease is scarce, making Moore, assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences Kent State University, one of the few scientists worldwide studying this syndrome.
