Today we celebrate Amelia Earhart Day! ✈️👩‍✈️

On this day in 1897, a true pioneer of aviation was born. Amelia Earhart not only broke records in the sky but also shattered gender barriers on the ground. Her courage, determination, and spirit of adventure continue to inspire generations.

Did you know? In 1932, Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean!

Let's honor her legacy by embracing our own dreams, no matter how high they may seem. What's your "impossible" goal?

--------------------
Courage

“Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace.
The soul that knows it not, knows no release
From little things;

Knows not the livid loneliness of fear,
Nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear
The sound of wings.

How can Life grant us boon of living, compensate
For dull grey ugliness and pregnant hate
Unless we dare

The soul’s dominion? Each time we make a choice, we pay
With courage to behold the restless day,
And count it fair.”

—Amelia Earhart, c. 1928, as quoted in Amelia: My Courageous Sister, p. 74

📚✈️ Our Aviation Security & Policy students are walking in the footsteps of geniuses in Florence, Italy!

Last week's highlights:
- Explored The Leonardo Interactive Museum, marveling at Da Vinci's visionary inventions like the Ornithopter (a winged aircraft with pedals), Archimedean Screw (which is used today in many different aeronautical applications), and the airscrew, foretelling helicopter flight and even the invention of the parachute.
- Visited Santa Croce church, paying respects to legends like Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli
- Indulged in a taste of home with an "American Breakfast" in the heart of Italy

Coming up: Swiss Cheese model lessons, Amerigo Vespucci Airport visit, and the Academia Museum. Stay tuned for more adventures (and great food) from bella Firenze! 🇮🇹🎨🍝

From Florence with Love: Kent State Aeronautics Takes Flight! ✈️🇮🇹

Our students in Florence are having an incredible time at the Kent State Florence Summer Institute! Here's what they've been up to:
🌟 Special Guest Speakers: We were thrilled to welcome two amazing Kent State alumnae:
• Olivia Zeller (B.S. Flight Tech 2015), now a G-5 contract pilot jetting off to Milano and Bora Bora
• Kristen Boye (B.S. Aeronautics), currently soaring as a Navy helicopter pilot
Both shared invaluable career insights and encouraged our students to seize every opportunity!

🐗 Lucky Charm: Students rubbed the nose of Il Porcellino, the little piglet. Legend has it that if you rub the nose of the piglet, good luck will come to you and you will return to Florence in the future.

🏛️ Palazzo Vecchio Tour: Our budding aviation experts explored the seat of Florentine government since the 1300s, walking in Niccolo Machiavelli's footsteps and witnessing firsthand the historical roots of policy-making and record-keeping crucial to modern aviation.

This is how we're bringing Aviation Safety Theory and Aviation Security/Policy to life! Want to be part of next year's adventure? Check out the Kent State Florence Summer Institute!
