Tis the season for stress! So much to do and accomplish before a certain date. It stresses our time schedule, our desire to have everything go smoothly, it stresses our budgets and our nnerves and can make us rather cranky.

We’re all familiar with the stewardess’ request that if something happens to the plane and the masks drop down….what are we supposed to do but “PUT ON YOUR OWN MASK BEFORE HELPING SOMEONE ELSE!”

Understanding the reason helps it to make sense. It’s not saying to be selfish per se or that your child is less import, don’t get that backwards. What it’s about is that if you pass out after helping your child(ren) you may leave them scared and parentless. You need to put on your own first to stay clearheaded to help them. If they do pass out before you help them then your ability to put their mask on will help them to recover.

When we take care of ourselves regularly we are better able to help others in every aspect of life. It is not selfish to want to be your best self unless it is at a cost to those around you. However when we take better care of ourselves in order to better care for others we have a WIN-WIN situation. Be proactive this season and don’t stop.

Adopting a self-care routine can help reduce stress. Sometimes physical activity goes by the wayside during the holidays but carve out some time to exercise a few days a week. Prioritize rest and sleep. Learn to say no.

*Nutrition nourishment rather than calorie overload
*Physical activity rejuvenates energy and strength
*Rest and Sleep help the body to reset and recharge for the next day
*Gratitude and Personal Development improves the mindset to deal with everything else.
*Accountability can be the key to surviving and even thriving.

I’m starting a Marathon. No running involved. It’s a journey towards a better self through 10 day laps of accountability, encouragement, education, recipes and personal coaching. Laps are followed by 4 days off before starting the next lap.

Where you are now is from days, months and years of habits that may not have served you well. The journey towards a better you begins with the first lap of a marathon. Getting to this point in my life came from several laps of plugging in to a marathon. You too can make great strides in the right direction starting now.

This is the time of year we want festive, holiday themed clothing including stretchy pants. However many of us already have closets bursting at the seams.

Why start a capsule wardrobe?

There are so many benefits to dressing with less. Choosing what to wear from a small wardrobe will save you time, money and energy. It’s also surprising how downsizing your closet makes you feel. Instead of being weighed down by decision fatigue or feeling frustrated with clothes that don’t fit or that you don’t like, you get to wear your favorite things every day.

✅Just think about this a minute then look at which pieces are your favorites. Feel the joy of them.
☑️Move ones that make you frown to the back of the closet if you’re not brave enough to box them up to go.

Exercise is NOT a dirty word! The older we get, no matter what age you are now, staying strong, and flexible is hugely important to how your body responds to stress, disease, and illness. And yes, holidays can bring stress and even illness.  Try adding small amounts of activity to your daily routine to stay limber, and to burn off a few extra calories in a time where we’re consuming a few extra calories on a more than average basis. 🙂

Add:
-a few extra squats when sitting down before you hit the chair.
-a few extra trips up and down the stairs before the day is done
- pick something of the picture to do each day
- park farther away from the store entrance (which is easier and easier the closer we get to Christmas!)
-stretch in the morning before getting dressed, it has a wonderful effect on the body.
- stretch again before going to bed
-give extra hugs to family and friends it relieves stress and improves the mood

Make a checklist –
✅There is something oh-so-rewarding about checking off something on a to-do list, especially when you are feeling stressed out.
✅A visual checklist physically shows your mind that you are making accomplishments, and gives you a mental boost to check off more items.
✅I have been known to put everything on my list when I am especially stressed — including getting dressed — just as a reminder that I am moving forward and making progress.
✅ Now is the time of year when there seems to be so much to do, so many extra events to go to, gifts to buy, food to make, house to get ready for company.
✅ A checklist for all the major things can be broken down into daily tasks moving you along the trajectory of a successful holiday with much less stress!
✅A checklist of who you need to get/make gifts for and a place to write down what you’ve already gotten for whom will help keep you to your budget too!

✅ Check that off your list!🎅

When looking at your holiday meals, there are some ways to keep them on the healthy side. For your entrée, look for lean sources of protein such as grilled fish, poultry, lean meats, or vegetarian sources such as beans and lentils, and go easy on high-calorie sauces and gravies.

Make a list of who you will give gifts to at Christmas.
*Make a budget for each person and come to grips with your true level of extravagance (have you already surpassed that reasonable budget for anyone on your list? Come to terms with that )
* Make a list of things you think they might like and have some conversations to get a better feel for whether that’s a good choice for them.
*Research pricing and where to get things for the budget you have set for yourself.
*Decide Will you ‘Black Friday’ shop live or online? And whether you will wait out a lower price/better deal.

Don’t skip a meal(s) to make extra room to eat more at a big event because you are likely to eat more total calories that day than if you ate breakfast (and lunch and even had) a healthy snack before going and enjoyed the event with moderation!
