⭐ Introducing, Dan Pohl! ⭐
Dan Pohl is best known as one of the longest hitters in golf, but he proved he had a complete game by winning twice on the PGA Tour, playing on the 1987 U.S. Ryder Cup and winning the Vardon Trophy for best stroke average for an entire tour season, also in 1987. This Mount Pleasant native started building his reputation as an all-state golfer and three-sport standout in high school. He won the Michigan Amateur Championship in 1975 and 1977. His ’75 win was memorable because he topped fellow Michigan Golf Hall of Famer Bud Stevens, another renowned long hitter, in the final match. ⛳

Here is another swing with not much "how to" injected in it. Dan Pohl won twice on the PGA Tour and lost in a playoff at The Masters. He once led the tour in driving distance and won the Vardon Trophy for low stroke average. He was on one Ryder Cup team.

I did a corporate outing with Dan 20 years ago. We were riding in a cart and I first congratulated him on his career. I then asked who taught him. He replied, "I was self taught." I asked if he had seen his swing on video. He replied, "nope, and I don't want to." I then asked, so, how do you keep your swing in shape week to week and month to month. He replies, "oh, I don't know. If I get to drawing it too much, I just practice fading until it starts going straighter, and then I'm ready to go. If I'm fading, I just practice drawing." Is that just beautiful or what?

He was considered one of the best ball strikers on tour. How could he, or Hogan, Snead, Knudson, Trevino, or Nicklaus and so many others have gotten so good without technology and all these measuring devices? Amazing, isn't it?
