Reminder: As part of State Superintendent Tony Thurmond's literacy initiative to get all California students reading by third grade by 2026, the CDE has partnered with Renaissance Learning to ensure that every student can access thousands of reading resources from December 1, 2021, to January 31, 2022, via the myON digital library.

In the first two weeks (from December 1 to December 14), students already read 955,753 books, 16,623,668 pages, 7,162,826 minutes, and 1,136,246,392 words!

The myON digital library and news articles in multiple languages can be accessed for free by all pre-K to grade twelve students in California. All books downloaded during the two months are able to be read offline. Schools have been asked to provide the access code to unlock these free resources for students and families.

The TCOE Planetarium & Science Center is forecasting meteors tonight! Later this evening through early tomorrow morning is a great time to view the annual Lyrid meteor shower. Meteors will be visible in the northeast sky from about 10:00 p.m. until dawn, peaking at around 2:00 a.m. when 10 to 15 meteors per hour will be visible. This meteor shower is the result of Earth crossing the orbital path of Comet Thatcher, which last visited the inner solar system in 1861!
