We've been getting a lot of inquiries about beef and thank everyone for your interest. While we will have a new round of beef in October, it is pretty much spoken for. The next batch will be available late spring. We will put it up here and on the site when we have beef available.

Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(left), and farm beef(right). There is an obvious visible difference between the two! But the differences don’t stop there!

1. You may notice in the picture the color difference. The store bought is pumped full of additives and water. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from either. Yes, it may have USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA. The meat in the package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from multiple cows. It could have came from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil.

2. The beef on the right is darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just scraps from multiple cows.

3. Buying your beef from a local Farmer/Rancher you are helping to buy a little girl dance shoes or a little boy baseball gear. Buying from the store just lines the pockets of the already wealthy meat packers. Let’s help each other. We help you eat healthy, you help us provide for our families.

Buy from a local ranch/farm!

America's beef supply is expected to shrink as drought and rising production costs prevent ranchers from growing their herds 05/29/2022

We've seen quite a few longhorn ranches selling off some cows due to drought and feed costs. We haven't, yet, but costs are rising. We still have beef and havent raised prices but our inventory is steadily going down (we are out of steaks). Next butcher date won't be until January, and if this article holds true, you should pin us for your beef in early 2023.

America's beef supply is expected to shrink as drought and rising production costs prevent ranchers from growing their herds Beef prices are likely to continue rising as U.S. based cattle ranchers continue to shrink the size of their herds. This move is expected to further constrain U.S. beef production in the coming months, the Wall Street Journal reported. Data from the federal government confirms that rising costs for....

The benefits of Texas beef 05/18/2022

The benefits of Texas beef By Julie Tomascik A cow here. A cow there. Cows everywhere! That’s because Texas is the top beef-producing state in the nation, and raising cattle is the largest part of Texas agriculture. And that means tasty, flavorful beef in all forms on your table.

Gotta love the protective instincts of longhorns. This little newborn was surrounded by the herd until they were sure it was safe. They wouldn't even let me get too close the first 2 days. Bull calf - 'Vw Danielle's Double Trouble', aka 'Trouble', alas... destined to be a beef cow in 2 years.

This is a great example of why we are considered a 'Boutique' or 'Craft' breeder of Texas Longhorns.

This calf - ''Vw Cut'n Cutie' - was born on the ranch on 10/11/2021 from AI that was done on 1/7/2021. This pic of her is recent (5 months old). Her Sire is 'Cut'n Dried', featured in the shared post below from Dickinson Cattle Co. Her Dam is 'Amazons Loretta LS' pictured here. Notice the color of Mom & Dad & baby? We focus on breeding for brindle. Notice how the brindle shade & pattern of both Mom & Dad is reflected in the calf. This does not always happen by the way; in fact it is actually rare that it occurs this closely. Secondary breeding trait desired is size, given we also produce beef. Mom is considered a large longhorn and dad is over 2200 pounds! Folks... that's considered huge for a longhorn. More cow = more beef. 3rd trait we shoot for is horn. Dad is just under 100" TTT and Mom is tracking in to be a solid mid 80's, with a perfect shape & twist. 4th comes conformation: traits that maximize the breed standards... and both Sire & Dam bring those traits which will continue to carry on in Cutie's offspring. Last, but certainly not least is temperament. Now while we haven't met Cut 'n Dried in person, Darol Dickinson will not breed a bull or sell semen from a bull unless he is intelligent and gentle. And Loretta is just as easy going as they get. When these 5 elements come along in one package, you have a keeper... a very high valued cow that can be the cornerstone of any breeding program. And we are planning on just that... so don't be looking for us to sell this one... at least for many offspring years to come.

03/22/2022

Darol does breed some phenomenal longhorns...

Flash! Cut'n Dried measures T2T today a smooth 98.25" stark naked. He weighs 2202 lbs. He is a very special tool for value minded TL producers who want to add size without loss of horn. That bronze brindle color is a plus also. Success value comes faster from breeding the very best. D

Now I know how to handle a bull with attitude...

Millions of people crowd the Fort Worth streets as the daily Texas Longhorn herd meanders the old brick streets. Sure glad I don't raise breeds with less public appeal. Breeds like....... and like...... and like .......... etc. D

We went shopping on Friday at Walmart and did some price comparisons on Walmart beef versus Vinewood Ranch's Longhorn Beef. We added some of these comparisons on our web site - vinewoodranch.com/longhornbeef. We also recently added more about the differences in Longhorn beef from traditional beef. It's worth a read for any beef lover, especially those of us that are now more health conscious than we used to be.

Meet Miss Mary, one of our brindle females. We are focusing efforts on breeding for brindle and she is a tremendous part. She's large on size, beautiful symmetric horns with a highly desirable twist, easy tempered, and of course, that gorgeous deep brindle color. But a perfect dam needs a perfect sire to increase the likelihood of a calf that will develop the desired traits. So, also meet Sam Chex, the bull that Mary is playing with in the pasture. So now we just have to be patient and let nature do her thing. Come September-ish, we'll let y'all know if we're grandparents, and if we were right.

This big guy was originally targeted as a beef steer, but we liked him so much as a potential show steer that we pulled him from the butchers list. Look at his horns! They have that unique drop that is so desirable at this age, heck, at any age! Then look at his Sire & Dam and imagine what his horns should do over the next few years. They likely will begin to turn upwards and out again giving him a gorgeous set of horns to match his color. He measured 40 7/8 TTT on 6/30/2021 (at just under 17 months - DOB=2/3/2020). Look at his color! Unique multi color mix with deep dark & red brindling framed by pure white top and bottom lines; love the white blending the horns together and the brindle socks. Look at his conformation! Great top line, good height, masculine shoulders & face, sturdy frame, large size - looks as good going as he does coming. Look at his pedigree! Greats are in his line including JP Rio Grande, Cowboy Cachit Chex, M Arrow Houdini and Working Woman. Super easy temperament, albeit a bit on the shy side. Gentle eyes. He loves cubes by hand. 21 months old and so much potential as a show steer or perfect lawn ornament. We call him Mr. Twister but he’s not yet registered so he can be named & branded by his new owner. All shots are current. Located in Central Texas, 1 hour south of Austin. Message for more.

Beef Is Expensive. So Why Are Cattle Ranchers Going Bankrupt? 11/09/2021

If you think your grocery store beef is US raised, think again. This article explains why it's likely not US beef, why it's cost has risen so much, why there are often beef shortages and much more. It's long, but well worth it if you're serious about your beef, tired of higher prices and care about US ranchers...

Beef Is Expensive. So Why Are Cattle Ranchers Going Bankrupt? Independent cattle producer advocate Bill Bullard explains the problem. It's the monopolies, stupid.
