This is a photo of a rare brand of flute that my private flute instructor played. He had a White Gold Armstrong Heritage flute during the time I was in high school. They were created in the 1970s and not many were made. It's a wonderful flute.

Hello, everyone! We had over 70 people in attendance at our first booster meeting and a lot of great conversations were had. Some parents who were unable to attend the meeting asked that I post the presentation. These were the main takeaways from the meeting:

Fundraising: We did an excellent job raising funds for our program last year. With this money, the band was able to purchase 10 new instruments, preorder pep band shirts in time for our first football game, and pay for adjunct staff. This being said, we need more help with football concessions. Last year, the concession stand was being staffed by the same handful of parents for every game. If you are able to work a shift, please sign up using one of the links below. If you are unable to work any of the shifts, please consider donating a case of water, a 12 pack of soda, or making a monetary contribution to concessions to purchase supplies.

Clinics: 7th and 8th Grade students have the opportunity to audition for a spot in the Sullivan County All-County Band and the ETSBOA Junior Clinic Bands each year. Last year, we had a record number of Sullivan Heights Band students audition and be accepted into the Sullivan County All-County Band. Additionally, we had 13 students audition and earn spots in the ETSBOA Junior Clinic Bands. 544 students from the Upper East Tennessee region auditioned and 198 were accepted. Sullivan Heights accounted for 6% of those who were accepted. We are going to continue to encourage students to audition for these clinics and work towards even higher success rates.

Recruitment: Currently, we have 68 students signed up for 6th grade band. This time last year, this number was less than 20 students and maxed out at 46 students. This increase was achieved by visiting elementary schools, building relationships with our elementary music teachers, and by taking the 6th grade band on a concert tour to perform for the students of Ketron, Sullivan Gardens, and Miller Perry. We hope to continue to foster these relationships and do more outreach in our community.

Football Pep Band: Football pep band will consist of all 7th and 8th grade students who are not participating in cheer, dance, or football. Students will be expected to wear their new band shirt and black shorts. Information regarding this will be sent home on Monday.

Communication: I will always send handouts with important information home with students. Additionally, important updates will be posted on the BAND app. I will be sending home information on Monday explaining how to log into the SHMS Band BAND app. Additionally, most updates will be posted on this account.
