Don't forget to make it this coming Sunday evening for our first September Supper and Bible study! All are welcome to join as we have dinner at 5 pm, then study from 5:30 to 6:30. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program, while the Youth and Adults enjoy studying scripture together in the gym. This month's topic will be the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew's gospel. This Sunday the meal will be provided, next Sunday is a pot luck, so bring your favorite dish. Spread the word and invite your friends to this fun intergenerational event!
In the New Testament, the Book of James is unique for its focus on action. It’s not enough to simply be “hearers” of God's word, but we are called to be “doers” of God's word within the world! James tells us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” What everyday actions do we need to consider in order to authentically live out our faith as Christians?
Over the next five weeks, CHPC will study the Letter of James to better consider how Christ compels us to act differently in a world that would rather we remain silent and still. All are welcome to join us on Sunday mornings at 10 am to worship with us as we consider the practical wisdom the Book of James has to offer!
Our Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who came out to help pack meals with us. It was such a fun time to work with one another in order to make a difference in the fight against hunger!
CHPC hosts a congregational supper and intergenerational bible study throughout the month of September about the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew's Gospel. All are welcome to join as we look at Matthew 5-7 over the first four Sundays of the month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Children will participate in a special music and bible study program, while the Youth and Adults enjoy studying scripture together in the gym. The meal on September 1 will be provided and the first congregational potluck will be on Sunday, September 8. Spread the word and invite your friends to this intergenerational event!
Our Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event is this Sunday! Don't forget to join us tomorrow morning at 10 am for an awesome and unique worship opportunity! We will meet in the sanctuary for an abbreviated worship service, then we will go down to the gym and continue worship by working to tackle hunger in our world! Our challenge is to pack 16,750 meals in two hours. Please invite your friends and family to come help us be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world!
We are so glad to continue supporting the ministry of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Day School through the early days of this new school year! We had the chance to share a blessing of little backpacks with these special students and remind them that God loves them, God listens to them, and God never leaves them. May all of God's children feel empowered to be curious about their faith and their world!
We had such a great time last week at the Kingsport Aquatic Center for CHPC's annual August Splash Down! It was wonderful to have over 100 people from the church, Colonial Heights Presbyterian Day School, and BSA Troop 48, Kingsport, TN come together to celebrate the end to the first week of school. Special thanks to the members of the Congregational Family Life committee for sponsoring this spectacular event, and a big thank you to all who donated to support our missional partner, Sleep in Heavenly Peace - TN, Sullivan Co!

This past Sunday we celebrated Rally Day! This is an awesome service, where we gathered around our teachers and students and blessed them as they embarked upon a new school year. This service was incredibly special, as we also rallied around the Lord's table together. We spent time showing our children how our community works together to minister to one another through Jesus, our bread of life.

Join us as we wrap up our sermon series over the next two weeks as we walk a little further with Christ through Galilee in Mark's Gospel. This Sunday, we journey with Jesus into this hometown and wonder why others cannot see this carpenter's son for the Savior he is. Come and see for yourself just who this Jesus is and how we are called and sent out to serve in his holy name.

Thanks to the Faith Formation Committee for planning this outing and to everyone who came out for it!
Last week, part of the CHPC Youth Group had the awesome opportunity to travel to Montreat, NC to participate in the Montreat Youth Conference! While there, we gathered with almost 800 other youth from throughout the country to worship, pray, learn, and grow in our faith. Our group made strong connections with other high schoolers during our small group time and our discussions after worship were deep and edifying. It was a great experience. It gave us the opportunity to meet so many new people, and have a lot of fun!
