The below is part of my recent study in Permaculture with Cornell Agriculture and Life Science. The topic has been so profound to me that there are moments, that I feel so connected in my heart to something that awakens every part of me, and really makes me think. I truly wish and hope that I can share these possibilities with you.

Permaculture Goals

What Permaculture ethic feels most important to focus on in your life right now? Why?

Although they all are equally important to me and encompassing all these ethics are very powerful, with an obligation on being truthful and respectable - I am very moved by the amount of care and positive emotion I feel towards anyone who sincerely is willing to discipline themselves within the structure of these moral commitments. But, At the moment, I believe more than ever, in Fairshare. I think as a nation we are obliterating our environment by taking more than we need. Individuals are obsessed with power, money, and control, that they have lost sight on the simplicity of living. Their lives need to be curated in a way that can give them social status in a superficial way. As mentioned, there is an emptiness in someone who chooses to live a life based on materialism, as it damages us spiritually and environmentally with broad effects worldwide.

What are some advantages of a design/science approach that is grounded in ethics?

I believe a design incorporated with the fundamentals of science grounded in ethics is very powerful. Using this knowledge allows for an array of advantages. Design constructed with engineering allows for utilizing space efficiently and with effectiveness of flow and function through the design. In addition, the technicalities to extend efficiency working with natural occurring elements aids in the result of fertilization, pest control, watering, intentional planting, a well thought out site plan that is creating an environment for living organisms, sustaining and falling in rhythm with our ecosystem. The knowledge and wisdom that can be gained and shared from this approach is not only beneficial for us and our families but humanity as well. The impact of preservation minimizes destruction and opens the minds lens to view prosperity as richness being gained through knowing that the choices we’ve made, where there is a decision in the way that space is held, has an impact on others. That is ethics and a moral obligation, with an open heart and mind, taking the gift of art and applying it to science and spirituality.

Does framing your personal site goals in ethics help you think about them?

I feel deeper connectivity while creating a site that is intentional. There is a grounding that unifies me with a greater purpose to expand on all of life’s potential to propagate from a heartfelt humanistic approach. Design is the luxury and vision - science allows the mind to think critically.

What were the easy parts of crafting goals? What were the hard parts?

I feel the overall sense I got from crafting my goals was “inspired”. Creating a space through design, engineering, and dialing in on positives that can exponentially results in something greater felt like I’ve been here before, there is a familiarity that is resounding.

Applying all the facets of permaculture and training my mind to elaborate on these philosophies, I would not say is hard, but a mere process of learning the fundamentals and being specific as I begin to execute them in my compositions with a creative, mindful technique.

when you spend your life feeling misunderstood. out of place. as if the frequency you send off isn't picked up by anyone. the song of your heart isn't heard by others in the same way you hear it. it can be lonely.
but then there comes a day when someone picks up on your energy. they hear your music. and for the first time in your life you feel heard. understood. seen. and that connection is more powerful than almost anything.
so if you find it or if you have it - hold it close. because that's a rare type of magic that should never be wasted.

Months after launching our tea bar, we are falling into a rhythm of operation. With all new ventures, it takes a moment of integration.
