Su***de can be prevented with open conversations, support, and assistance for those in need, ultimately saving lives. Research indicates that offering support services, discussing su***de, limiting access to self-harm methods, and checking in on loved ones are among the steps we can collectively take to assist others.
Providing instant counseling to those in need, reaching out to a su***de hotline such as 988Lifeline, or locating a nearby crisis center can offer vital assistance during crucial moments and link individuals to local resources. Risk factors are traits that increase the likelihood of someone contemplating, attempting, or dying by su***de. While they cannot directly cause or predict a su***de attempt, being mindful of these factors is crucial.
Recognizing certain warning signs can assist in identifying if a loved one is potentially at risk of su***de, particularly if the behavior is recent, escalating, or appears to be linked to a distressing event, loss, or transition.
If you or someone you know displays any of these signs, seek assistance by calling 988.
