Seen here, she's making her Moldovan Beet Salad. Aditi tweaked it a bit and added quinoa to make it more hearty for a fridge salad on the go. We call it our "My ♥️Beets Salad". Find it in our fridge/cold case. Vegan. GF. No garlic.

Aditi here - I first met Anna through my landlord when we first opened and she came in and introduced herself and asked me - "Will you be my friend?" Anna had recently moved from Moldova to take care of her grand daughters (many in Kingston know her as Babuliya). I know only too well the feelings of a newly arrived immigrant and the sense of loss you feel of your known world. We became good friends, language not withstanding, and over time Anna started helping in the kitchen. At first a little, and now a lot, so much so that I can't imagine what we would do without her. Through all the ups and downs and many transitions in this business, she is a constant. I am so grateful for her friendship and for her having my back always. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I cannot bring myself to say "Happy International Women's Day". It feels trivial when I think of the scope of suffering around I was recently gifted these photos by a fellow sister, an amazing artist and photographer who wanted to capture local women and their work. I do believe in the power and comfort of sisterhood. I have been blessed to grow up in a culture where sisterhood is the norm, surrounded by strong determined women who do quiet work and fight quiet battles. I think of them today and I hope I can pass that gift on to younger women just as they did to me.
Thank you Kingston and the local community for so wholeheartedly accepting and supporting me and my work. I'm not sure I could have done this anywhere else. I have lived in a few different places in this world, and I'm so lucky to call this little town home ✨🙏🏼.

✍🏽A sneak fact - one of his short stories in the book is roughly based on Aditi's life at the farmers markets of Brooklyn. Watch this space for more details on the event.

🌻Many of you know that Aditi (with her sons in tow) cut her teeth in food business for over a decade at the farmers markets of New York. Her love for the markets, the fellow vendors and amazing customers she met has culminated in this present version of our store. Along the way many a friend helped , known and unknown helped her on the path Unbeknownst to her, Jai was a long time customer of hers at the Park Slope farmers market. Last year, his wife, on a visit to our store tipped us off that a character in an upcoming book of his might bear some striking resemblance to Aditi's life. Well, it's here now!
Come for an evening of literature and Bengali food.

JAI CHAKRABARTI's short fiction has appeared in numerous journals and has been anthologized in The O. Henry Prize Stories, The Best American Short Stories, and awarded a Pushcart Prize. Chakrabarti was an Emerging Writer Fellow with A Public Space and received his MFA from Brooklyn College. He was born in Kolkata, India, and now splits his time between the Hudson Valley and Brooklyn, New York.

A little story about our Andelina. If you are a regular at our store, you most likely have seen Andelina quietly working at the kitchen. Soon after we opened, Andelina walked in one morning looking for a job and after a quick reference check, we hired her right away. I heard her story of fleeing Belize as a domestic abuse victim and starting life over as a sure sign of a brave and courageous woman, qualities I was sure translated into being an excellent team member and employee. She did not disappoint us and quickly became the quiet backbone of our store. She KNOWS EVERYTHING about our operations. Always showing up with her winning smile, she quietly works behind the scenes to make all of us look better. We call her Saint Andelina, because she is the one who can locate every missing object, equipment, ingredient and cell phone all the time.
And true to her nature of giving. she now volunteers her little spare time at Ulster Immigrant Defense Network We are so lucky to know and have her. Truly an inspiration. ✨🦋
