All schools in Lake Washington School District will be closed today due to icy and hazardous conditions in multiple areas of our district. Precipitation and freezing temperatures have resulted in icy roads and sidewalks. All programs and activities are canceled. There will be no athletics, events or public use.
In these types of weather situations, the top priority is the safety of students and staff. The district recognizes that snow days disrupt family schedules and extend the school year. We also recognize that many staff members travel from outside our district boundary to come to work each day.
The decision to close schools is not an easy one. It’s also complicated by the fact that the district covers 76 square miles, including low-lying areas next to Lake Washington as well as higher altitudes at Finn Hill, Education Hill, Redmond Ridge and the Sammamish Plateau.
**UPDATE: 1/18/24 at 7:30 a.m. - All schools in Lake Washington School District will be closed today due to icy and hazardous conditions in multiple areas of our district. Precipitation and freezing temperatures have resulted in icy roads and sidewalks. All programs and activities are canceled. There will be no athletics, events or public use.**
Due to snow and ice in several areas of our district, LWSD will have a two hour late start tomorrow, Thursday, January 18. Buses will run on Emergency/Snow Routes. There will be no preschool services, no morning Extended Day Care, no before school music programs, no pull-out Quest, and no out of district transportation. This late start will allow our crews more time to prepare the schools for the arrival of students and staff.
This decision will be reviewed in the morning, and any changes will be communicated by 8 a.m.
To find your emergency/snow route bus stop location:
1. Login to Skyward Family Access*
2. Select “Busing” on the left-side menu. Snow routes will be labeled with “Snow” under the ”Days” column.
You can also find your route at: www.lwsd.org/transportation
Please note: It is possible that your “Emergency/Snow Route” bus stops are the same as your regular stops.
Morning Emergency/Snow Routes: We always encourage riders to arrive at their stop at least five minutes early to ensure they do not miss the bus, as the bus will not return to the stop after it has left.
As previously announced, Dickinson Elementary/Explorer Community School and Twain Elementary will be closed.
*Bus routes will be available in Skyward by 5 a.m. on Thursday, January 18. In the meantime, Emergency/Snow routes are available here: www.lwsd.org/transportation.
