Knoxville Water and Energy for All - KWEA
Knoxville Water and Energy for All is a community-wide effort for affordable water and energy KUB bills. https://linktr.ee/kwea
Mission:
As advocates of racial justice and human dignity, KWEA calls upon KUB to make utility services accessible and affordable to all and to end utility disconnections for customers with unaffordable bills, aligning solutions to lived experiences and human rights standards.
FYI, for those needing shelter and/or a meal in South Knoxville — you should head over to the South Knoxville Community Center (522 Maryville Pike) now instead of Vestal United Methodist Church. Vestal UMC has been reported to have reached maximum capacity.
There are several warming centers that will be opening up this coming week. To find the nearest warming center near you, please call the KPD's non-emergency line 865-215-4010.
If you are interested in volunteering to help out at one of the warming centers, please call 211.

Reminder that we have our KUB disconnections workshop TODAY at 6:30pm at the Bottom!
……………
❗️In every month of 2022, about 27,000 households were more than 30 days past due on their utility bills. This is up 2,000 households per month since 2021!
❗️KUB collected over $3 million in late fees in 2022 alone.
❗️In the KUB service area, the zip code with the highest disconnection rate is the ONLY majority Black population zip code (37915). 1 in 6 households were disconnected. This is more than 3 times the KUB disconnection rate.
…………..
Join us in finding solutions to high rates of disconnections as a community!

Thousands of Knoxvillians had no power this holiday season. This trend WILL repeat as the Tennessee Valley Authority continues to invest in fossil fuels instead of green, reliable energy
Heads up Knoxville.
TVA is requiring KUB to reduce power load due to extreme demand on the electric system. KUB customers are likely to experience temporary outages until TVA provides more information. KUB is striving to keep rolling outages to 15 minutes and is rotating outages across the service area until TVA lifts the requirement.
Excited to be one of the grantees with Emerald Cities Collaborative! Thank you for believing in our work and supporting our mission! Stay tuned folks.
