YLK 25 had their Orientation at the beginning of the month, and they were able to learn more about what their next year will look like in the program and meet their classmates. We can't wait to get to know them!
Congratulations to our 2024 Cohort of Leadership Knoxville Scholars who graduated from the University of Tennessee this past weekend! We had the opportunity to celebrate them and their incredible LK Alumni Mentors last month and hear their reflections on their time in the program. We are so proud of them and can't wait to see what they each do next!

The LK Flagship Class of 2024 has officially graduated and completed their program! IK 24 Spring are officially a part of the LK Alumni Family! They spent their last two sessions learning about our quality of life and the arts and culture community here in Knoxville. During their 5th session, they had the opportunity to explore at Ijams Nature Center and the Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum, hear from some leaders in the Knoxville sports scene, and learn more about what it means to give back to our community.

Their last session included a panel discussion with leaders in the arts and culture community, incredible live art from Mike C. Berry Studio - Fine Art (LK 2018), and performances from Knoxville Opera, Knoxville Children's Theatre, and Rhea Carmon.

Earlier this month, the LK Class of 2024 completed their April session all about Knoxville's growth! Class members spent their day in the new Public Safety Complex and heard from Knoxville Police Department - TN Chief Paul Noel (LK 2023) and his staff, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor David Brace (LK 2015), Knoxville's Community Development Corporation director of policy and strategic partnerships Marisa Moazen (LK 2005), the City of Knoxville Municipal Judge Tyler Caviness, and the Knox County Emergency Management Agency director Colin Ickes.

The class also spent time with Dr. Jerry Askew (LK 1992), learned about leading with design from David and Lorie Matthews, and experienced leadership flexibility through improvisational thinking with Steve Sherman. LK 2024 also closed out their Pillar Talks with Tribe 7 leading them in a discussion about the seventh pillar of servant leadership- Leading with Moral Authority.

IK 24 Spring spent last week's session exploring a few of our region's "Crown Jewels"! Class members had the opportunity to hear from Knoxville Utilities Board and Tennessee Valley Authority and how they work together to serve our community. They also heard from Julianne Geleynse, a park ranger for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, all about the park's growth and its importance to East Tennessee. The class also had the opportunity to visit and explore Oak Ridge National Laboratory and hear about some of their science wins, both past and present.

IK 24 Spring completed their second session last week and learned all about education in our community! Class members had the opportunity to tour Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, hear from a panel of leaders involved in Knox County Schools, and learn more about secondary education opportunities from the University of Tennessee, Pellissippi State Community College, and tnAchieves.

LK 2024 took their annual trip to Nashville last week! The class had the opportunity to spend time with our area legislators through visits to the State Capitol and sitting in on Senate & House of Representatives sessions & committee meetings. They heard from several people who work hard to make Tennessee the best it can be, including public policy strategist Mark Cate (LK 2007) and Comptroller of the Treasury Jason Mumpower. The class also heard about the strides our state is making in education from SCORE and a panel of state education experts.

Of course, we couldn't let them leave Nashville without visiting some local gems! The class kicked off their trip by visiting Spark: Lipscomb's Idea Center and completing some leadership development training with Dr. Steve Joiner. LK 24 visited Geodis Park, home of Nashville Soccer Club . They also visited Live Nation Concerts, where they heard from a panel all about Tennessee's place in the music industry and closed out their trip with a performance by Emily Ann Roberts!
