π Skill #5: Dynamic Visual Activity π
There is constant motion on the basketball court, with both the ball and other players continuously changing positions. To remain competitive, athletes must be able to react quickly to these dynamic visual stimuli.
π§ Construction Update: We love seeing the updates to our facility! We can't wait to serve Knoxville's athletes!
π Skill #4: Depth Perception π
The ability to quickly and accurately judge the distance between yourself, the ball, your opponents, teammates, boundary lines, and other objects is vital for your team's success.
π Skill #3: Anticipation Timing π
Perfect timing is essential for a top- performing athlete. In basketball, anticipation timing is key for knowing when to take a shot, go up for a rebound, or move in for a steal.
π Train your eyes to βSpring Forward!β Don't forget to change your clocks tonight!
π Skill #2: Accommodation & Convergence π
To keep pace with the game, basketball Players must be able to change focus instantaneously. Quick, accurate eye movements are needed to rapidly scan the location and movements of the other players, the ball, and the basket!
Will Bartholomew, former UT football player AND D1 Training CEO, stopped by the facility recently to check out the construction progress. A building wall isn't the only thing we share with D1 Sports; we both strive to help our athletes develop a competitive advantage.
To celebrate basketball mania, this month we'll be sharing how sports vision training can be a game changer for your basketball performance. Tune in all month long for NINE essential skills that can be honed through sports vision training.
π Skill #1: Concentration & Focus π
A slight lapse in concentration can lead to turnovers, missing easy lay-ups, or bricking your free throws. During March, watch out for the team that can maintain their focus for the full 40 minutes; they are likely to win games and keep advancing through the tournament.

Why is Peripheral Awareness Imporant?
In fast- moving sports like football, basektball, and soccer, an athlete's awareness of what's happening around her is a critical skill. Sports Vision Training trains an athlete to expand the space which they can attend to while focusing on what is directly in front of them.
Train Your Reaction Time
Reaction time is a key component of athletic performance. And mere seconds can be the difference between a win and a loss. Vision training can improve reaction time and revolutionize the way an athlete plays the game.
Athletes can improve their hand/eye reaction time by training their reflexive response. In most sports, there is little to no time for mental decision making. An athlete has to rely on anticipation and visual cues to make a decision.
Sports Vision Training: As a branch of optometric vision therapy, Sports Vision Training uses new technology to evaluate, train, and improve an athlete's visual skills, including reaction time, peripheral awareness, eye tracking, and cognitive speed. Sports Vision Training has also been statistically shown to reduce the risk of potential injury and to rehabilitate the brain after a sustained concussion.

MEET THE DOCTOR MONDAY: Dr. Carusone developed his love for sports growing up in Northeast Ohio. A 3-sport athlete in high school, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Kent State University and his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in 2016. Dr. Carusone spent much of his time in Memphis staying involved with local and national optometry associations, including the AOA Optometry Cares, the Private Practice Club and the Lionβs Club, the latter of which he still serves as the local president. He, his wife Mallory, and their new daughter Nova spend nearly every weekend watching sports, including their beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, NCAA basketball, and NFL Sundays in a divided Steelers-Browns house! Whenever possible, they also love catching a ballgame at Smokies Stadium, Neyland Stadium, or an Ice Bears game at the Coliseum.

Sports Vision Therapy
What is Sports Vision Training? Visual skills such as visual acuity, eye tracking, eye-hand-body coordination, visual memory, peripheral awareness and depth perception can be what keeps an athlete from reaching the next level! Simply put, Sports Vision Training is the science of training and enhancing all visual skills in order to help athletes reach peak levels of performance. By identifying weaknesses, sports vision trainers can train athletes to see the game faster, react quicker, and anticipate more accurately.
