Come explore the Marble City, Pond Gap, Sutherland Heights, and Kingston Pike-Sequoyah Hills neighborhoods with us tomorrow (April 18) at our Walk with Elected Officials!

The walk will start prompty at 6:00 pm at the Third Creek Greenway Park on Sutherland Avenue - we recommend folks arrive a few minutes early to allow time for everyone to gather. Parking will be available across the street at Vreeland Engineers, Inc.

The route will be about a mile and a half, and will focus on walkability at West High School. Our tours are a fantastic opportunity to engage with local elected officials and community members about how policy, funding, and infrastrucutre impact safety for walking in our community.

Be sure to wear appropriate shoes for walking and bring a water bottle! We look forward to seeing you there!

We're excited to welcome Cody Gentry as the City of Knoxville - Government's first Vision Zero Coordinator!

Gentry has worked in the City’s Engineering department for 17 years, most recently as a key member of the Neighborhood Transportation Safety Program. The neighborhood-driven program engages the City’s Office of Neighborhood Empowerment, Transportation Engineering and Knoxville Police Department in finding solutions to vehicle speed and traffic safety concerns on residential streets.

Gentry says he’s excited to apply neighborhood traffic-calming principals and methodology to higher-speed streets and intersections that require more intense interventions.

“Traffic calming is all about slowing vehicles down, and that’s the main goal of Vision Zero,” says Gentry. “If we can slow vehicles down, we can reduce the risk of serious injuries and deaths.

“And if mistakes are made, they’re not deadly,” he adds, echoing the Safe System Approach to street design recommended by the Vision Zero Plan.

Welcome, Cody!
