Hey~ Spendin' my last coupla nights, here, at The Kure Keys Motel.....been an insane month since I closed her down, mid-July.......lawyers, realtors, inspectors....all that stuff......PLUS workin' daily to sell, donate, relocate the 25+ years of accumulated stuff before the "wrecking ball" takes over next week...... π Electricity, phone, internet, etc. will be gone on Tuesday..... I've seldom been able to actually *stay* here, over the years.......and certainly never when it's been closed and vacant........ Quiet....no "owner/operator distractions".....just chillin' up on the deck, absorbin' the ocean......with a moon rising over the ocean that, though not quite full, is bein' MOST accommodating! π (Kinda what I envisioned when I got into this, so long ago.....but, then, well.....*reality* & stuff! And once you're into it.....you're flippin' INTO it, y'know? π ) So weird that the tail end is soooooo cool & beautiful.......there's a 'cane out there, well offshore.....and for once, it seems, it doesn't feel our "magnetism"! π The sky is beautiful & calm, as the sun goes down........and the WAVES are large, mellow & rollin'.....a surfer's dream! π That offshore hurricane is kickin' up some flavor full stuff!!!!! π Unfortunately, it seems to be aimin' at the northeast.......New York....
and *Maine*!!! π I have 25 years of dealin' with such junk....have danced me a 'cane dance ......or 12! π .... so I'm not *too* easily intimidated, any more. Those folks up there.......it gives me worries.........Make a nice, quick turn east, Henri......y'hear?
Well, my friends, guests, and treasured "acquaintances".......I reckon that *that* may well be THAT, for the Kure Keys Motel, and my awesome staff of JoAnn, Mark and Tyler.... I shut her down, today, so as not to be holding rooms for folks, when the rooms may not be available when they're counting on them. The actual closing of the sale of the property did not happen, today, as scheduled.....(a handful of lawyers are involved, so it's no surprise that "stuff" happens..... ;-) ) We are now hoping to close the sale on July 22.....but I can't wait until then to be "takin' care of business"....so I've closed us down.... :-) To be painfully honest, I'm breathing a bit of a sigh of relief, as I simply can't (physically) continue to pilot this "thing"... On the other hand, , I anticipate an overwhelming wave of sadness.....when the next coupla months of serious work are done, and the actual demolition of my little "slice" begins......:-( 26 years at the helm here......and *numerous* butt kickin's.......It is what it is, I reckon...... ;-) We'll be selling off the "stuff" of the place over the next 2-3 weeks......appliances, decorations, linens, kitchenware, supplies, POOL SUPPLIES & *chemicals*, TV's, grills.....SHEESH! If you're interested, please call ahead! I can't be keepin' "normal business hours/days" and doing all of the stuff that I must...... :-) OK......perhaps I was not totally truthful..... Gotta grab me a tissue before I press "post"....... :-( Missin' y'all, already........

β€ lolol....ran into this today.....finally got home so I could mess with postin' it up...... π "Hands up......let's HOOP!", from a few years ago at the Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach, NC, when Suzi House Mclean and her troop of hoopers were often "holdin' court"...... β€ This is a Kure Beach cop.... bein' a really good, COOL guy at a time when much of our country was denigrating these valuable folks...... If ya can't catch the good natured/*good* humor in this.......well, bless your heart....... π (No extra charge for the helpful hoopin' tip: *Hands UP*, hooper!)
This is among the treasured things that I'm hatin' to leave behind, here, soon...........Criminy!~~

Mysterious offshore vessel identified by Army Corps of Engineers - WWAY TV According to the army corps of engineers and Wrightsville Beach town manager Tim Owens, the ship is a privately contracted research vessel testing sand sources and cores.
:-( Our first of 2021......... Be gentle, Ma'am, 'K???? ;-)
Saturday we should be ok for the most part outside of some scattered showers and storms. Probably ok to grill and pool. The bulk of the rain does not arrive until late on Sunday and into early Monday. Official totals are shown below. Flooding may be a problem for some.

My son, Carter, now 18, and my daughter, Emily, now 34.......time flies~~
Ahhhhhhhh, my friends and fellow beachbums.......I've been delaying making this statement/announcement until it seems pretty sure...After 26 years of piloting this little adventure.....I signed some documents today which make it very likely that I've sold *1* of the 3 lots which comprise the Kure Keys Motel. I've had other contracts over the past several months which fell through, for one reason or another, so I'm quite aware that it's not a "done deal" until it's DONE! ;-) This one seems pretty solid, for now, so it seems that the "done date" is July 15, 2021.....if it happens, we'll be closed beginning that day. After that, I plan on a coupla weeks of "the world's largest parking lot sale", liquidating 25+ years of accumulated furnishings, equipment, supplies and such.......;-)
It is, indeed, a bittersweet announcement that I'm making.....I've agonized over it!.......Sooooooo many awesome memories.....family!!!.....my small, inimitable staff !....small in numbers, but LARGE in *heart* and effort!!! , treasured friends, and experiences.......some have even jumped in to help me climb out of the latest "weather catastrophe"!

HOT OFF THE PRESSES......Kure Beach Town Council is letting us OPEN THIS FRIDAY, MAY 15!!!!!!!! :-)
Hot tub will not be open, but we're scramblin' to get ready, and would LOVE to see you!!!!!!! :-)
Well, friends.....our hopes have been dashed, again......for now......
Trying to OPEN ON MAY *22*!!!
Though our Governor "allowed" hotels/motels throughout the State of NC to open today, May 8, 2020.......the Kure Beach Town Council decided that it is too soon, and has prohibited us from opening until May 22, Memorial Day weekend! Town Council will be meeting again this Monday, May 11, and they *could*, of course *change* that (perhaps let us open *sooner*???? :-) )
I'll keep you posted if there's any change to the May 22 date.......
I am so, SOOOOO sorry......... :-(
RE-OPENING for the 2020 season!: May 8!!!! (I *think* ;-) )...Make that a big NOPE! :-( (See above....)
Soooo.......our *latest* update on this COVID/Corona/Conundrum....and our attempts to re-open for this year: Present indications are that we MAY actually get to open on Friday, May 8!!!!! (Subject, of course, to a possible "extension" by our State and/or local "powers that be".....). We have taken every possible "precaution/steps" to assure your (and OUR! ;-) ) safety.....heck, we had already taken them back in March, before "they" wouldn't let us *open*! :-) The only thing likely to be "unopen" on May 8 is our hot tub......("social distancing" issues)... :-(....but the pool and pool *area* should be fine. The beach is open, and the Pier opens tomorrow, May 1.....both with some restrictions, which seem to change daily...... ;-)
Just a little "heads up", so you don't freak out when you pull up......A realtor will be erecting a "for sale/re-development" sign in the next several days. Yup, I'm seriously considering letting the Kure Keys Motel "go", this year....The property is "officially" listed for sale..... :-( This most recent debacle, following closely on 3 & 1/2 hurricanes, over these past four years, has caused me to begin "reading the writing" on the proverbial wall. My reserves....and energy, are depleted.....:-(
Hope I get to SEE y'all in 2020!!!!!!! :-)
David Tripp,
Pilot of this flight for the past 25 years.......;-)
UPDATE: RE-OPENING POSTPONED UNTIL AT LEAST APRIL 3, for all of the obvious reasons....("State of Emergency" declared in our County, and beaches closed....as is Kure Beach Pier.....)
We're *anxious* to get open!!!!!....and will keep you posted~~
Yes, it's almost *time*! There is still *much* to be done to prepare, but we expect to re-open on Friday, March 27, 2020! The hot tub and pool will not be ready for use then, but the *ocean is open* ;-) , and the freshly restored Kure Beach Pier will be open as well!! Come check it OUT!
We hope to begin "manning" the phones around Friday, March 27. Until then, feel free to call and leave us a message. I check messages nearly daily, and will call you back very quickly. Also, you may ask about rates and availability *anytime* by using our website:

Hoping to see y'all SOON!!!!!!!

Perhaps you weren't aware that Tyler Gibson, long time "Pool Dude" at the Kure Keys Motel, is *also* "Sammy C Hawk" , mascot for UNCW.......*that* fella gets *around*!... :-)
Seahawks Tomorrow game holds special meaning at UNCW Despite around 5,000 students -- and their voices -- UNCW womenβs basketball canβt find a victory against Winthrop at Trask Coliseum.
WOW!!! :-)
:-) Perhaps our last weekend open, this year.....depends upon the weather! We'd love to see ya before we shut down..........for....???????
I am getting lot of texts and questions so I guess I'd better reiterate.
*When is it? This year it is November 2-3, it's always the first full weekend in November.
*When does it start? It runs from roughly 10am to 4pm.
*When are the kites up? Depends on good winds (not too much and not too little) and weather. They can't fly in rain.
*Is there handicapped access? It is held at at State Park and it is handicapped accessible.
*Are dogs allowed? State park rules that they are allowed but must be leashed at all times
***And please keep your children with you at all times. Touching or playing in the kites and or with kite lines is not allowed unless the kite owner gives you their permission. There are Safety Officers present to enforce this and it is of paramount importance for your and their safety. ***
