Let’s talk a little about pitocin.
Did you know that the FDA and Pitocin Manufacturer advise against using Pitocin for the elective induction of labor?🤯
Some info about using any amount of Pitocin:
🌻It raises the risk of postpartum depression by 32%+.
🌻1 in 4 women who are induced will undergo an emergency c-section.
🌻Pitocin is associated with higher rates of postpartum hemorrhage.
🌻Also associated with more interventions and a longer labor.
🌻Causes abnormally strong contractions and fetal distress.
🌻Pitocin also interferes with natural bonding hormones by reducing oxytocin (the love hormone) levels.
In most hospitals in the United States, nearly half of all labors begin artificially with a combination of hormones or a deliberate rupture of the amniotic sac. For women who labor begins spontaneously, they often get Pitocin pushed on them to speed things up. Making it too painful to endure. Which often leads to an epidural. Epidurals increase odds of Pitocin use too. Once an epidural is started, they often will have to increase the Pitocin. And the vicious cycle has begun.
42.9% of first-time mothers will have their labors induced. That number is way too high🤦♀️ This more than doubles their risk for emergency c-section too! Very RARELY is there a legitimate reason to induce labor. Most often it is done for convenience, an exaggerated concern, or because other interventions have interfered with the labor process.
Doctors will often times call Pitocin oxytocin, but it is NOT the same in any way, shape or form. Using Pitocin is one more way women are controlled during labor and birth🤷♀️ I know so many who were given Pitocin to induce labor or speed labor up just so doctors can go home or get to wherever it is they’d rather be.
The insert that comes in the box with the Pitocin actually says that it is not recommended for ELECTIVE use. So those inductions that are recommended because your “due date” (more like guess date) has come and gone, those are also considered elective inductions because there is no medically necessary reason to do them!
It also warns that when the uterus is already hyperactive, you should not use it! So if you’re already having fast and hard contractions, they aren’t supposed to use it and often times they do! A listed adverse reaction is uterine rupture along with postpartum hemorrhage. It states that excessive usage (upping the dosage too much or too often) can make the uterus rupture.
You can also experience any of the following as adverse reactions:
🌻Fetal death
🌻Neonatal jaundice
🌻Neonatal retinal hemorrhage
🌻Low apgar score at 5 minutes
🌻Permanent brain damage
🌻Neonatal seizures
🌻Bradycardia
There’s so much more!

This gives you all the information!
The fact that Pitocin is so overused and basically offered/pushed as though it’s something simple and harmless, is so sad and scary!
(And it's *unclean*)
