Yesterday, I was granted the opportunity to present to Ms. Schaulis’ 3rd grade classroom for their Career Day. It was such a beautiful experience. I felt welcomed and loved interacting with our students at Sanchez Elementary School.

Happy month of March. On Tuesday, I attended the La Mirada Youth in Government City Council meeting. I was impressed by the creativity, leadership and communication skills of our students.

The new Wellbeing Center at John Glenn High School is not a Planned Parenthood clinic and abortions will not be offered. The services that will be available to students consist of pregnancy testing, STD testing, antibiotics to treat certain STDs, and a morning-after pill or a referral to an abortion clinic may be offered to students.

Thank you to Cerritos College Trustee, Zurich Lewis, for administering the oath of office as I begin to serve on the NLMUSD Board.

Norwalk-La Mirada community, Thank you for entrusting me with this crucial responsibility. I do not take this privilege lightly. I will do everything that I can to advocate for students, families, teachers and staff.

The final numbers were posted on Monday. I am both humbled and astonished that I not only secured a seat on the board but that I also received the highest number of votes among all incumbents and candidates.

It is a joy and honor to be able to serve the NLMUSD alongside my new colleagues. I am deeply grateful for everyone (family, friends, NLMUSD certificated/classified staff, and community leaders) who endorsed/supported me throughout this process. Many of you were strangers who have become friends, and you have blessed me in many ways.

This election confirmed to me that every vote does matter. I am so thankful for each and everyone of you that voted for me. I did not take this position or your trust in me lightly.

I am committed to, first and foremost, do what is best for the children and families, as well as the teachers and staff of our school district for the honor and glory of God.

After canvassing in Norwalk, my husband, daughter, son and I voted! Please vote. Experienced politicians tell me that some candidates have won by 3 votes. Every vote counts!

Busy day today. First we prayed and then we went to Norwalk to distribute flyers.

Yesterday, my heart was deeply touched by a text that I received from my sister and her husband after they listened to El Clasificado’s American Dream podcast about me. 🥰 His words were very affirming even though our views generally differ. The images are in Spanish.

He’s known me since I was about 8 years old and I remember him buying apple pies and toys for me. As time passed, we grew apart but this campaign has brought us closer together again. 😌 Below are my brother-in-law’s thoughts in English.

“Lorena answered very well! She has a lot of integrity. What she wants to achieve, God-willing He will give it to her. I liked it when she said that she was always with her children in everything, even with her work, etc. I see her as a sister and I hope she wins. If she wins, there will be a good change in schools, with families and everything.”

My family has been so supportive. My husband attended the LM Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum. My daughter accompanied me to the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum. Here’s a picture of my son and I at the NLMUSD PTA-sponsored Candidate Forum.

I recently visited a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) kindergarten classroom that follows the 90/10 model. It is the exemplary classroom of Mr. Jose Manso, Ms. Stephanie Gilman-Beamer and Ms. Maria Esther Ramirez at Dolland Elementary.

I was reminded of my visits to schools with the goal to establish partnerships for our Biola University Multiple/Single Subject Credential candidates for their observations and Student Teaching placements. During some of my visits, I was also able to identify potential Master Teachers. The dedication of these teachers and the best practices that are evident in their classroom would definitely qualify them for such a partnership.

Their classroom is student-centered, language/print-rich, and reflects ethnic diversity. The layout of the furniture facilitates smooth transitions with adequate traffic flow and whole/small-group instruction. Learning spaces are clean, organized and well-stocked with manipulatives, as well as visual aids. If the students would have been present, I am certain that I would witness high-quality teaching with various effective teaching strategies and differentiated instruction.

Speaking from my heart about my passion for teaching. I am called to teach and began teaching in church in my early 20s, then for almost 30 years in K-12 and Biola University preparing future teachers (some are teaching in NLMUSD and others across the US and overseas).
Moving forward, I will be offering curriculum and course content for parents, grandparents, and others serving children in various learning spaces.

Teaching has been the only profession that I have practiced. I have a teachable spirit and long to teach what I learn, by grace. Generations before me living in South America are teachers, in my generation I have cousins who taught for over 30 years, and in my next generation, our son is an elementary school PE teacher.

I eat, sleep, and breathe teaching. I humbly ask for your vote and if you find it in your heart to do so, please share this post with others.

Today is the last day to register to vote and be mailed a Vote by Mail ballot for the 2022 General Election. We received our ballots in the mail, but our plan is to vote in person soon. Hope that you are all having a great day and a wonderful start of this new week. 💕

So grateful for the prayer and support of these two amazing teachers (April Reutter and Jose Manso). Jose, April and a group of precious moms distributed flyers with me yesterday. Very thankful for meeting such devoted mothers who set aside time to support us.

Due to website inquiries from two separate concerned individuals, I decided to revise my flyer and website to reflect my stance on divisive ideology. According to them, my website and flyer were vague. I appreciate their feedback and they were right. I was also encouraged, by others, to highlight the fact that I am the only highly qualified candidate. Consequently, the Why Lorena Vidaurre section of my website and the first/last bullet point items were added to my flyer below.

Most of my favorite blessings come in the form of prayer and scripture given to me, but today I was greatly blessed by a text from a dear friend. The image is below.
