Prolapse occurs when the pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum, slip down from their normal position and bulge into the vaginal canal. This can cause discomfort, pressure, and various other symptoms. A key factor in managing and improving prolapse is maintaining normal bowel movements. 💩Straining during bowel movements increases pressure on the pelvic floor, exacerbating prolapse symptoms. Here are some tips to help regulate your bowel movements and reduce strain: 1. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water (1/2 of your body weight in ounces) to keep stools soft and easier to pass. 2. Fiber Intake: Eat a diet rich in fiber, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, to promote regular bowel movements. Recommended by research: 30–35 g per day for men and between 25–32 g per day for women. 3. Exercise: Regular physical activity can help stimulate digestion and prevent constipation. 4. Toileting Posture: Use a small stool to elevate your feet while sitting on the toilet, which can help position your body for easier bowel movements. 5. Don’t Ignore Urges: Respond to your body’s signals and avoid delaying bowel movements. By improving your bowel habits, you can reduce the strain on your pelvic floor and help manage prolapse symptoms more effectively. 🚨 Shoutout to Taylor Swift! 🚨Saw the recent post of ICON featuring Taylor Swift showing her belly as she breathes heavily after a performance. Let’s talk about how incredible the diaphragm is – it does SO much work when singing! 🎤It’s unfortunate that we live in a society quick to criticize women’s bodies, especially our bellies. This pressure leads many women to suck in their bellies throughout the day, disrupting natural breathing mechanics. This habit can cause pelvic floor tightness, urinary frequency, incomplete emptying of urine, pelvic pain, and more. The constant pressure to have a “flat tummy” affects more than just our self-esteem. It leads to shallow breathing, which impacts overall health, including digestion, core stability, and mental well-being. Studies show that poor breathing mechanics can even contribute to anxiety and stress. 🌸Ladies, let your bellies expand completely when you breathe to avoid these issues. Your body will thank you! Do you have this habit? Comment below! 💬👇Credit to ICON.#PelvicHealth #BreatheFreely #StopBodyShaming #HealthyHabits #TaylorSwift #WomenSupportingWomen #pelvicfloorawareness #womenshealth #orthophysicaltherapysolutions

Pelvic floor therapy is much more than just Kegels. We assess and work on the following areas:. 1. Posture: Good posture supports pelvic floor health by ensuring proper alignment of the spine and pelvis, which reduces unnecessary strain on the pelvic floor muscles. 2. Breathing: Deep, diaphragmatic breathing helps reduce tension, improve muscle coordination, and enhance overall pelvic stability. 3. Spine mobility and ROM: A flexible spine supports proper alignment and movement, reducing strain on the pelvic floor muscles 4. Core and hip strength play a crucial role in pelvic floor health by providing stability and support to the pelvic region, which helps prevent and manage issues like incontinence and pelvic pain. Strengthening these areas ensures better coordination and function of the pelvic floor muscles, enhancing overall pelvic health. 5. Pelvic floor mobility, strength, and endurance are crucial for maintaining bladder and bowel control, supporting pelvic organs, and enhancing sexual function. 6. Patient Education on hydration, nutrition, sleep: Staying well-hydrated prevents bladder irritation, a balanced diet provides essential nutrients for muscle strength and recovery, and adequate sleep ensures optimal healing and stress reduction. Our approach includes manual therapy, strengthening, stability, coordination, and functional activities to help you get back to where you want to be. Have you been to Pelvic Floor Therapy? 🚫 Beware: Why Kegels Aren’t Always the Answer! Learn When They Could Hurt More Than Help 💡 Don’t do Kegels if you have these conditions: 1. Urinary Frequency or Urgency 2. Urinary Leakage 3. Pelvic pain with tampon insertion or during intimacy 4. Inability to completely empty bladder 5. Constipation Frequently, these issues stem from overly active pelvic floor and doing Kegels can further tighten the muscles leading to more discomfort and dysfunction. Instead, focus on techniques to help relax and release tension in the Pelvic Floor. It’s crucial to consult with a Pelvic Floor Therapist before starting or continuing Kegels especially if you have any of the above symptoms. A tailored treatment plan can help address specific needs and optimize pelvic floor function and over all well being. Please reach out if you have questions! Dr. Donna at 240-698-3659.
