With deep sadness, we report the passing of former UBMS Counselor Kentrell Spencer, who passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Kentrell was a former UB 2 participant and a major advocate for the TRIO programs at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In addition, Kentrell was a dedicated and supportive employee who enjoyed helping students reach their highest potential. She was a pillar of her community and participated in several community service projects throughout the New Iberia community. Kentrell’s warm spirit will be missed.

Serving as the Trio Director since 1979, Mr. Carmouche secured millions of dollars in federal TRIO funding to better assist students from underserved populations. The federal TRIO programs provide students with the resources and tools needed to succeed in high school and postsecondary education.

Mr. Carmouche is pictured below on a cultural and educational field trip with several Upward Bound students.

With deep sadness, we report the passing of our Trio Director, Mr. Robert L. Carmouche, who passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by his family. Mr. Carmouche was a pillar in the TRIO community as he advocated for underserved populations and was a champion for student success. He served as the UL Lafayette - Upward Bound Director from 1972 to 1979. Moreover, Mr. Carmouche served as the TRIO Director at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette since 1979, dedicating over 50 years of service to student services and education.
