I love the feedback that I get from students of how Yoga is improving how they feel in their body, mind and spirit. Teacher Training (Soul Tree Yoga, Lafayette, CO), Feb 2018

Humans have a difficult time releasing stress and often hold it in our bodies, which can cause mental and physical health issues. On the other hand, zebras and other animals “shake off stress” and rest after encountering life threatening situations. Once they know they are out harms way they use the rest and shake (in either order I believe) to shift out of the sympathetic nervous system. This part of our nervous system is important for preparing us for action, being productive and reacting to a threat. However, the problems occur when humans stay in a chronic stress state from real or perceived threats, stressors and challenges in daily life and/or overstimulation. Watch this Impala, first in the “freeze”
response when in the clutches of the leopard. Then when the leopard gets distracted by a hyena and runs away, he stays in stillness, shakes, and then runs off. Maybe try the “shake and rest” method to release your stress?

Please share this flyer with anyone you know who might benefit from this 5 week series using Education, Community and a Gentle Yoga Practice to manage a cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
I work with “ANY-BODY” who wants to understand and experience how a regular yoga practice can increase their healthspan. Through education, community and a mindful yoga offering, my clients learn tools to manage illness, injury and the natural aging process.
I hope to meet you at Louisville Community Yoga starting 4/7 for a special 5 week series on Yoga for Healthy Aging. Sign up here https://louisvillecommunityyoga.com/workshops/ or on their app under “store”. Message me with questions!
“We don’t stop moving because we get old, we get old because we stop moving!”
Did you know that a regular yoga practice can boost chances of healthy aging by improving range of motion / flexibility, supporting the cardiovascular /immune system, increasing muscular strength, maintaining balance/agility and managing stress and emotional well-being? Each week we will spend about 30 minutes discussing a specific topic (science -what happens when we age, how can yoga help?), followed by a gentle, focused 1 hour practice.
Hola from Costa Rica! Andy and I have been here since 12/18. First we enjoyed a holiday and college graduation celebration with our 2 “kids” and another week of goofing off together in this beautiful country. For the last 3 weeks we have been volunteering at Los Higuerones in Puerto Jimenez, building and organizing and living in community. Off to the Panama Canal next and open to suggestions for after that!
I am offering a Gentle to Yin/Restore class in my community here 7-8 CST and can zoom folks in. Please LMK if interested and I’ll send a link! PURA VIDA!!

I will be offering two RESTorative yoga gratitude practices THIS WEEK:
-- Wed at 4pm at Soul Tree Studio in Lafayette. BY DONATION. Also offered online (ZOOM) if you prefer the comfort of your home or do not live nearby. Please register and arrive early if you have never practiced at this studio. https://soultreecolorado.com/
-- Sat at 10:30 at Bob L Burger Rec Center in Lafayette
Restorative practices by their nature are a gift to your nervous system. They are a wonderful way to prepare for what can sometimes feel like an overwhelming holiday season. It can also sometimes feel like an underwhelming season, if you are experiencing loss or grief, ill health and/or are unable to be with loved ones. Practicing gratitude is one way to offset any negative emotions associated with this time of the year. By becoming aware of each moment, we can replace these feelings with appreciation for the small things. We can remind ourselves to value the miracle of simply being alive! We can acknowledge and feel blessed by the abundance all around us.
I hope you can join me this week!
Happy to be hosting another session at Louisville Rec Center this fall! Did you know that a regular yoga practice can boost chances of healthy aging by improving range of motion/flexibility, supporting the cardiology/immune system, increasing muscular strength, maintaining balance/agility and managing stress and emotional well-being? Diane will provide background information as well as tips and tricks throughout the practice, so students will leave feeling good and having some additional tools in their tool belt to foster well-being as they age. Ideal for those 50+.
