Hello everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that major repair work should be completed soon. We are closer and closer toward the finish line. And that finish line smells alot like coffee, beignets, sweet potato biscuits, and scotch eggs. Thanks again for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Just dropping in for a quick update. WE HAVE SHEETROCK y’all! Paint colors have been chosen and we are selecting the final finishes. We can’t get wait to get back to serving you!!

We just want to thank everyone for the amazing support and provide a quick update on our progress. The café is officially stripped to the studs (top to bottom) and ready to put back together. We are currently waiting for final approval from the insurance company to start reconstruction. We are hopeful that we will back up and running in July!

Stay tuned. We can’t wait to see you all again.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: During the early hours of Saturday morning, an apartment above Black Café caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured, but there was significant water and smoke damage to the Café. We will be closed until repairs can be made.

Right now, we are wrapping our heads around the steps we need to take to resume business. We are accustomed to flooding and have taken the necessary precautions for those situations, but this time, water came from above, and it is impossible to have contingency plans for both possibilities.

We are going to need help in the coming days and weeks. We will need to fundraise, and we may need volunteer help, as well. Our employees’ livelihoods have once again been disrupted, and we need to get back to work as soon as possible.

Again, we are only in the early stages of learning the specifics of the damage and what we need to do to get back on our feet. We are proud to be part of the fabric of this community – as a café, caterer, and meeting place – and want to get back to serving you soon.
Please keep an eye on this page for more information as we have it. We will need to lean on you for support.
