Design Assistant Needed
Award Winning, East Bay Residential Interior Design Firm is looking for a design assistant who wants to learn from the best and have an amazing opportunity to grow with a well-established firm. Design Assistant Duties include supporting our Lead Designers with space planning, sourcing, budgeting, vendor/contractor communication and coordination, and project installations. In addition, there may be some assistance given to purchasing and expediting.
Responsibilities:
• Assist Senior Designers with sourcing, documenting, and maintaining client files
• Communication with showrooms requesting quotes & CFA's
• Provide elevations and floorplans on AutoCAD
• Create proposals on Studio
• Assist in expediting order status reports
• Maintain sample library & returns
• Create client care & maintenance binders
• Assist in client photoshoots
• Assist as needed in all office duties
• Work with multiple clients, and on multiple projects, simultaneously
Requirements & Skills:
• Full time access to a reliable car. Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rates
• 1-2 years of related experience
• BS degree in Interior Design or similar
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Experience using Studio Designer is ideal but not required
• Experience using AutoCAD also not required, but ideal
• Excellent time management and communication skills
• Team player, positive attitude, strong desire to continually grow and learn
• Creative talent, imagination and eye for design
• Vendor/Showroom knowledge of furniture, fabric & lighting
• Experience using Asana & Slack
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $37,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
Benefits:

Meet KBD : Jan

Jan is our amazingly talented and creative design assistant here at KBD. She recently graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Interior Design. Prior to joining the KBD team she worked as the sample librarian for one of our favorites - where she learned the ways of a showroom and hands-on experience in fabrics. Her style consists of working with color and the natural elements of a space. She is enthusiastic to learn the trade; always taking on new tasks, and her natural abilities to problem solve are going to serve her well in this industry. Above all else she is a total joy to work with.

Who does not love a great before and after?! This small primary bathroom received a full revamp. Creating a more appropriate space plan was the first step, raising the ceilings and positioning a skylight to bring in more light helped with the scale and lastly the finishes were instrumental to the light-airy aesthetic.

9. Curbless Appeal

A curbless shower entry gives a bathroom an open and airy feel. It also eliminates a potential tripping hazard and allows easy access for someone who uses a walker or wheelchair, making this a good feature for aging in place.

Kathleen Burke Design incorporated the detail in this Sonoma bathroom. Marble floor tile runs seamlessly through the room, creating a wide-open look that’s heightened by a frameless glass shower enclosure. Two floating black vanities and other black details add a touch of drama.

10. Sonoma Suds

In Northern California, Kathleen Burke Design outfitted a modern farmhouse’s crisp black-and-white laundry room with all the essentials: durable surfaces, copious cabinetry, handy baskets and, across the room, side-by-side front-loaders. But it’s the awesome extras, including a dog wash station and a beer tap, that really make this one a winner.

The shape and wood texture of this mirror with the fun wallpaper and pop of color on the vanity brought this small powder room to life.

Its starting to feel like spring and the landscape at our modern Sonoma farmhouse is in full bloom.

Amongst the gloom of Covid, this new project was our silver – or should we say – colorful lining for that year. From the ground up we worked closely with our client to make their dream home a reality. Bright white, clean and simple with a pop of tropical flare and it was so fun to bring it all together. Our client’s art collection added so much personality to the home too!

Outdoor entertaining is one of the many reasons we love California, and if this past year has proven anything, it is that outdoor entertaining can essentially take place year-round. As the weather continues to warm up it becomes so important to have a comfortable and inviting space that draws you outside.

Nicole is one of the newest faces here at KBD but her experience and charismatic personality feels as if she has been a part of the team for years. Her design approach is based on the philosophy that your immediate surroundings have a direct impact on your well-being. Your home and everything in it has the power to transform your attitude, brighten your day, stimulate your senses and warm your core being. She thrives on creating special retreats for our clients that express their individuality and embrace their lifestyle. Born and raised in the SF Bay Area she embraces the California indoor-outdoor quality of living and when not designing loves to garden, cook and explore the Bay Area with family and friends.

We are sad to see our clients move out of the Bay Area but it always warms our heart to hear how much they have enjoyed their home after working with us.
