My group left for the states and I stayed on in Laurenan, France as an artist in residence!

I settled into studio time for 2 plus weeks and continued my work / play
with lots of inspiring material ,well I took long walks and reflected….wasn’t in a big hurry and it felt great!

I have been wanting to explore gouache more and did. I worked with lots of mixed media as well and more plein studies.

Continued exploring more of Brittany with my excellent guide and painter as well, and artist 🙏🏻🙏🏻

St. Jacut, a northern beach village, was one of my favs as well as the megaliths at Carnac. So many moments of joy and memory keeping!

Flowers abound grown by locals and nature having its way, flowers growing out of stone and along the countryside.My resonance with water, tides,shells,flowers and fields to name a few grew!

Here are a few glimpses of my journaling and works in progress!

After a long hiatus from Instagram, I thought I’d share with you my journeys through September.

The last month I’ve been traveling through France, exploring amazing architecture, enjoying incredible French food and culture, and mentoring fellow artists. The highlights being: the museums of Paris, Giverny, Le Mont Saint Michelle, spectacular gardens, and the breathtaking countryside of of Brittany.

We sketched and painted plein air on site and then took our inspirations into the studio. Some of us created concertina journals as a memory keeper of our experience and explored gelli printing with local botanicals.

So much gratitude to for her guidance , grace and knowledge of the countryside of Brittany and to my amazing participants who made this trip possible!

We are all looking forward to creating more work from this inspiring trip!

So excited to show new works , working on a title for show that will include a few coastal landscapes and my new botanical series including this on!

Join Kathy Dumesnil and like-minded creatives on an inspiring artistic journey through the villages, hillsides, and breathtaking coastal regions of Brittany, France. As you explore this unique region through excursions to places like the Mont Saint Michel, Saint Malo, and Dinan, Kathy will offer on-site demos and guide you through informal journal studies in water-based media.

Back in the studio, you will work in a series using your travel journals and sensory impressions as reference and inspiration.
Kathy will give exercises and demos that will encourage you to play with art and design principles and help free up your process.
Lots of flow and fun! Along the way, expect to meet plenty of locals, learn to cook authentic Breton galettes, explore medieval towns and rugged coastline, sample local wines and ciders, and return home with a piece of France lodged in your heart forever.

Kathy’s love for travel and cultural experiences has inspired her work for decades. She documents her travels out in the field through plein air work and journaling which later serve as a reference and source of inspiration in her studio practice. The imagery in her work emerges from this sense of place and connection.

The finished and complete painting from the last post 24 x48! Inspired by a vining flower from a large tree on a dirt road in kauai where I happened to be lost and when I stopped ,got out of the car to get my bearings these glorious flowers where right above my head,the universe speaking to me! Feel free to share any inspirations of your own!
