Students from W.D. and Mary Baker Smith Career Center Culinary Program, under the direction of Culinary instructor Kandice Dequeant, recently competed in the Louisiana State ProStart Invitational in New Orleans.
In a fierce competition of 37 student teams from across the state, they rose to an impressive top 5 in both categories!
Culinary Team (Ayden Blazio, Kylie Bossier, Gabrielle Merritt, Tylin Lindon and manager Javeon Mouton) had 1 hour to create a fine dining meal on two camping burners as their only heat source. The team placed 5th overall.
Management Team (Stefani Figueroa, Valorie Vidrine, Yazmine Trahan, Gabrielle Merritt)
created a unique restaurant proposal and pitched it to a panel of judges βshark tankβ style.
They captured 4th place overall, and judges award for operations.
We invited them over for a celebratory breakfast. Congratulations! πππ
