South Laguna Community Garden Park

South Laguna Community Garden Park

We hope it will create unity, foster fellowship and create a sense of camaraderie and helpfulness among neighbors.

The purpose of the Garden Park is to produce vegetables and flowers for our families, to learn and teach gardening methods and sustainable practices, to bring people together and to create a project in which our community as whole can participate. We also hope to develop interest in community gardens that will sustain the South Laguna Community Garden Park and support the establishment of other gardens in the area.

We are having quite a successful tomato season at the Garden! This year we raised 350 disease resistant plants and held a seedling sale for the community. We predicted which varieties would thrive in our coastal climate, and for the most part were right on. For the first time ever, gardeners are swimming in tomatoes! If you bought plants and are raising them at home, please share your growing and tasting notes. We will be deciding which varieties to raise next year. Look out for our next seedling sale in the spring!

This community garden is a testament to the power of collaboration.

Curitiba, Brazil has a well-established program of transforming unused urban land into community gardens. These gardens are indeed community-owned and managed, focusing on improving food security, building social cohesion, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Reservations are requested at southlagunagarden.org

South Laguna Community Garden Park is excited to announce “Mariachi Musicale & Potluck Celebration,” an evening of cultural and community revelry on July 21st, from 5 to 7 PM. Look forward to an unforgettable evening, featuring the vibrant rhythms and melodies of the world-class Mariachi band “Mariachi Nuevo Jalisciense” and a community Mexican-themed potluck.

Known for their engaging performances and exceptional talent, “Mariachi Nuevo Jalisciense” is a highly sought-after group that is adept at performing both old classics and new favorites. Don’t miss this chance to experience a traditional mariachi band!

In addition to offering a night of inspired music, the event encourages a sense of community through the potluck. Attendees are invited to bring Mexican-inspired dishes that serve approximately 10 people.

Thanks to Barbara Granger, this free event continues the community-fostering spirit of Garden founder Morrie Granger who would have been 87 this year. Reservations are requested at southlagunagarden.org. Donations are welcome.
